V Clamp Sizing & Application (CAT to Muffler Bypass)

I am now the proud owner of lightly used, (and I mean lightly, these things are like nu). FabSpeed 996TT Sport Imported Racing Catalytic Converters with Muffler Bypass Pipes, but sans V Clamps.

I purchased the pipes used from a 6Speed Sponsor,

Pipe ID at Flange: 2.4" (ish)
Pipe OD at Flange: 2.5"
Flange OD: 3" as near as dammit.

Do you think I can find, or decipher which V Clamp that is compatible? Well depending on where you look V Clamps are based on ID of incoming pipe. OK, 2.5" right? Wrong! a 2.5" clamp expects a 3.2" or there abouts Flange OD and as they have minimum openings, this will not work.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

SWR

Get the OEM muffler clamps off a regular NA 996. They will work and they are a LOT stronger. You should be able to find them fairly cheap. I believe FS sources the clamps from an outfit in the UK, it looks like Tubi even uses them on their race muffler.

I have the same setup and also made the mistake and bought the wrong ones that were sized bigger... I got the right ones from ATP Turbo for about $16each.

V-Band Clamp - 2.50"
Heavy duty stainless steel V-Band clamp for turbo discharge setups or to mate (2) of our 2.5" v-band flanges. This clamp is made from Stainless Steel. 2.50" refers to the tube diameter and this clamp is used for industry standard 2.5" v-band flanges that have an outer edge of about 3.1". 2.5" refers to the outer diameter of the tube used on this size vband flange.

No, Cats from Source A, Pipes from Source B. turned out to be a LOT more cost effective. about 1/4 of the price actually.

There are some nice 100 cell cats on ebay right now. I can vouch for the vendor. It is not me by the way, it is the place I bought mine from. They were just like NU.

Back when I ran fabspeed stuff the weak link was always the v bands, they are weak and flimsy. The bolt is a 1/4" grade 5 bolt rated at 12-15 ft lbs of tq. trust me, after you loosen and tighten them a few times they are done, they will loosen and start to induce drone. The best option is the much stronger oem porsche 996 c4s muffler clamp with a stout heat treated grade 8 case hardened steel german bolt, run about 25$ a pr.
The rest of the FS stuff is decent, but the clamps are junk. Been there, done that, got the t shirt.

TT Surgeon:

I somewhat agree, and for $60 a pair certainly not worth it. does anyone have the part number of the OEM Porsche C4 Clamp? Even though I do have 2 sets of the Fabspeed Style on their way. I they fail, I will get the good ones.
