Even at $125/hr (my local dealership labor cost) x 2.8hrs book time, that’s 350 labor leaving 2050 or 1025 per axle!!! That’s ridiculous! The labor is 2.8 for both fronts, I looked it up, unless they are doing an alignment which is kinda discriminatory since you have to pop off the tie rods. Unless the steering wheel is not straight afterwards I don’t mess with it. Alignment calls for 2hrs. Talk them down because even though its out of warranty, the dealer should show you some love. Let me know if you need more info I would be more then happy to look anything up for you. Good luck!

Check with some of the Indies in your area. I'm sure you can get a much better price. Not trying to be argumentative, but who says he's one of the best in the country? That's a pretty bold statement.

J,

Have you considered Kent Moore? He's a very respected Porsche guy here in Vegas. He used to be a crew member with the Factory Porsche Team at LeMans, Etc. If you go to his shop it's wall to wall GT3's all prepped for the track. People actually store their cars with him. Call me and I'll give you his #

thanks for all the advice. They are gonna do an alignment also, is that necessary because if not then i need to call them to not do it. They said that they have to replace all the fronts, i guess there is an outer and inner on both sides.

When you take the tie rods out of the spindles there is a possibilitythat it can change the toe slightly upon reinstallation. With how tight Porsche clearances are however, if the steering wheel is clocked correctly upon finishing the install, I would not touch the front ends alignment. If you want to save some, tell them not to do it. If you notice it’s off when you get it back it’s not like its any extra work to align it some other time. For what they are doing they should just check the front end for you and need be recommend it to you or not. If my shop were in your area I would defiantly take care of you. Hp is more fun to fund then the boring fixing stuff and I feel the pain.

im gonna let the dealership know not to do the alignment and see what they will do on the price. Its not so much a money thing but i would rather put the money somewhere else like a motor build or something of that sort, thanks for all the advice it really helps to know everybody pulls together to help out.

See if you can get the old axles back once they put new ones in, I'd be more than happy to buy them from you.

Inside or outside? Anyway, it's nice and easy to change the boot it you're mechanically inclined. Actually it was the easiest I've ever done and I've done a few cars. The easiest part is that the axle snaps with a nice to remove clip and not with a snapring.

I'd take Gabe's advice... you'll be starting a relationship with a shop that will take you to the next level... and not wasting time at the dealer where they just view owners as ATMs.

PS "Best in the country"... really? According to who? A dealership salesman? How many times do you think that story is told across the USA?
