New Turbo Owner -- CEL Light
Are these CEL codes his?
Codes that the car is throwing are P1411 and P0410. Are these MAF related? Any recommendations that I can try without having to take it to hte dealership?
Thanks,
Ben

P0410 P1411 Secondary air injection system malfunction
Ben-Sorry for the delay, I was out of town.
This is Not MAF related and mine went @34K
This will not hurt your car but get her done as soon as you can.
P0410 Secondary air injection system malfunction
P1411 Secondary Air Injection System
I just repaired this on my 2002 996TT.
This is how you diagnose the problem.
1. When the engine is cold, start it up and listen for the secondary air pump. It's located on the right side of engine bay-see the 2nd picture for the air pump location.
2. The secondary air pump motor should run for about 30 seconds-its an air pump and it should sound like it's blowing/grunting. If you hear this you have just determined that you don't have to replace the air pump ($$$).
3. Now all you need to do is order the 2 check valves
(SunCoast Porsche-Rick) and replace them. If you will be doing this yourself I have instructions.-Rolf

P0410 & P1411, Bank 1 & 2:
Possible fault cause:
♦ Secondary air injection pump is not triggered
♦ Secondary air injection pump does not work
♦ Air supply lines restricted
♦ Electric change-over valve does not function
♦ Air change-over valve does not function
♦ Vacuum system leaking
Check for leaks....as well

Good Point-but what is the best way to check for leaks? I think Ben is planning on taking it to the dealer because he has extended warranty and wants a general idea before bringing it in.
If not he will have to lower the engine cradle.

Read the fine print on your warranty! I've seen many that exclude "emissions components"... you don't want to get a call from the dealer saying once they've committed and find you are getting royally s.....d.

same thing
Ironically, I got a CEL today while doing normal driving. Same code as the OP (only got this one:
P0410 Secondary air injection system malfunction
cleared the code, tightened the gas cap really good. Drove the car for about 20 minutes and it did not return. At least now if it pops back up I will know what to check for.

It's an afternoon job if you have the tools and will save you $$$
(I have pictures/diagrams/part numbers)
I'd be interested in whatever you can give me. It has not come back on this past week but I'm wondering if I should just replace the check valves anyway. I saw that there are quite a few aftermarket parts for this (some pretty expensive), what did you use?
These are the parts that I used
996.605.155.00 $27.03 cycle valve
996.605.165.00 $61.34 change over valve
996.605.123.01 $16.00 change over valve
Bought but didn't use
996.113.257.70 $124.91 Air regulator valve
You also need to know how to lower you engine cradle
(I also have pictures and instructions for that)
I'm replacing a Bank 2 before cat o2 sensor today after diagnostics using Durametric so let me know what else you need.

you said you have pics of it all? How long did it take you to do it?
It took about 2 hours to complete.
1. Porsche secondary air flow diagram with part numbers for ordering parts
2. Lift rear of car and put jack stands on left/right rear jack points
If this still looks difficult PM me and we can talk on the phone.
It is pretty straight foward if you know how to:
a. raise the car/secure with jack stands
b. remove the air box
c. lower the engine craddle/2-4 inches with floor jack
d. locate the check valves and replace
e. check for pressure leaks
f. reverse steps a-c to put it back together.

Can anyone help with the location on both check valves ?

Could you share the location for both the check valves that need replacing please
