OT:Thinking about the WRX STi...Any input?

Pretty impressive stats on the '04 Subaru WRX STi...300 hp/ 300 ft lbs. Not bad for a daily driver and sounds fun. Anyone have any input on the car?

it's fast and it's ugly. if you don't mind the looks it would definitely make a decent dd although it isn't very comfortable. Before you buy one drive the EVO also. I have driven both and there is no comparison in my mind. The STi is slightly more powerful but the EVO handles much much better.

talk to Shank he owns an STi.

I've driven both pretty extensively now and would definately take the STi. As far as saying the EVO handles better, in stock form it's a little stiffer through the corners, but that is easily changed.

We have a "regular" WRX that we use as a local schlepper, winter slogger and all-around hauler. The thing is a total hoot to drive; its hard to believe something this cheap can be this much fun straight out of the box. We added the short shifter, rally gauges and an aftermarket boost valve. Only downside is that, unlike other "exotics" or performance cars that appeal to a wide spectrum of civilians, the only people that seem to lust after the WRX are teenage boys....

I have not driven either, but, can tell you they do not look that bad in person. I kind of like how the EVO looks and for $30k, seems like a great deal. They are a little boy racer for me, but, all in all a great performance value and easy to upgrade to boot.

Why not just throw some snows on your TT and use that? You get the best of both worlds...Awesome Car and Rips through the snow!

He may not live where it snows but I do, and I can tell you, I do not want to drive my vehicle in the snow. There are so many morons around who have no idea how to drive. Between the worry that some idiot is going to smack into me and the nasty salt and slush, I would rather buy a winter car.

I've been lucky thus far...knock on wood. And that was using a rear wheel drive cab as a daily driver.

I can only see the TT as an improvement in traction, etc with snows and AWD. However, I will be purchasing a SUV to accommodate the soon to be family and those really nasty storms...

Yea,

We have been pretty lucky in the midwest as well. In 2001 I think it only snowed in December and then not again. 2002 there were a couple snows, but streets were cleared right away. I am sure the car is a great winter car, but, I worry about the other guy.

STi, hits 60 mph in 3rd gear! I was shifting so many times per minute, I got sick of it.

It takes forever for the RPM's to drop after shifts as well (Definitely needs a lighter flywheel).

The Evo, is quick, handles great, is a bit stiff, but guys like me, would swap out for something stiffer!

I took my deposit back, and decided on an new RS6 instead!
I love it. I'm thinking of picking up an Evo just to screw around in.

Great car for the money and, as Bill mentioned, a real hoot to drive -- based upon actual ownership experience.
The STi definitely exhibits significant "inner beauty".
