new exhaust, what you think?
new exhaust, what you think?
wanted to get some feedback on an exhaust i am having built.
stainless 3" pipe, hi flow cats, x-pipe in the middle, steel wool packed resonators and 3.5" double walled quad tips...
pictures below shows dry fitting, not yet assembled/welded.
the main question is...do the tips look too large?
too ghetto?
should i go smaller?
i had them custom made, so i would have to pay again to have the tips made a different size.
i like quad, but maybe i am going to large for the awkward shaped OEM opening?
any and all comments welcomed.

I like it.
Show me pictures with the bumper off as I might be interested in something similar.
Use a heat gun to reshape the bumper openings, you might have to get it repainted.
Also, your setup looks perfect to be set up with a switchable muffler bypass.
yeah those tips do look a bit weird with the oem opening. I forget which exhaust does this, but there's an aftermarket exhaust that has smaller outside tips so they fit perfect in the oem opening while keeping the seperate circles and not overlapping like the factory optional ones or the techarts. Or take it to a good body shop and have them re-sculpt the openings to fit your new tips. I can't wait till you can put up a youtube soundclip though. should sound meaty!
quad tips
I think the aftermarkets you are thinking about are the tech-arts. I had a pair of those on my stock exhaust when i bought the car. One tip diameter is slightly larger (inside tip) and they were off center a bit to mesh more with the oem opening of the 996. My thoughts on the custom tips is they make me think 997 and personally while I love the 997 i tend to keep my mods within the style e.g. i personally would not a put a 997 looking steering wheel in my 996. That's just me. I do admire all the work to go completely custom. Just curious. Is is that cost-efficient? Are power gains similar? I know that determining my sound preference was like having kidney stones...painful and expensive to boot. Could not imagine going in blind. I could not make up my mind with aftermarket...nevermind going completely custom. Good luck!
Yeah, it doesn't look right with that misshapen OEM opening. I would go ahead with the install and then contact a decent body shop to resculpt those openings to fit the new pipes.
Or, is there any way to twist the tips so that the line of them is conforming to the OEM opening. Give it a shot and see what that looks like.

Is this still a mock up? welds look incomplete. I would go back to your stock tips, or someone elses 70mm tips. Make that part interchangeable so you can change the look later if you want. Looks a little misfitting with the stock bumper openings, JMO.
yes, this is still a mock up,
no muffler, no bypass
i went into this kinda blind, but i tried a fabspeed and listened to many other ones, and just did not like what i heard...the fabspeed gave me so much drone as well.
cost is not so bad, compare to buying new.
and the best part is you get to choose cat cell size, size tubbing...etc..everythign down to the finish, polished or powdercoated..etc.
not so sure if i am into the idea of altering the bumper,
no, video clips right now,
but i will put some up once exhaust complete in a week or two.
thanks for all the suggestions and comments!
I have a few more pics i took,
I will try to put them up soon.

alright, i think most people are on the same boat with this...
exhaust looks good but opening needs to take shape to exhaust tips.
anyone in socal know any place that would be able to alter the bumper exhaust openings for me.....well, reputable and does a good job.
