Porsche calls these orientation lights. One is located on the underside of the rear-view mirror that illuminates the center console area and one in the leading edge of the drivers inside door pull that illuminates the ignition switch. Mine go off when I lock the car or when not locking it, when the dash lights go off after sitting for a while.

Mine came from www.autotrader.com, at a cost of $62k (the rest of the 2002 996tt came with them for free 
). Ok, not everybody like a smart ash... they are factory std on my 2002tt.
