996tt in Wallingford, CT

I am considering this car. Carfax indicates it was leased in northern CA and then returned to Porsche. Dealer didn't buy back and put in internal Porsche pool (not Mannheim) and the Wallingford dealership bought it. Seems as though on sale there for 7-8 months, original price was 74,995 now offered at 59,995 and I think they will go to around 55k. Has anyone dealt with this dealer. Does anyone know anything about this car. I was planning on driving down there this weekend to give it a spin. Dealer says reason it has not sold is it does not have heated seats.

Hey man,
After looking at the car if you're interested in it I suggest you have a good independent Porsche shop give the car a through inspection (PPI).

I recommend calling Fairfield County Motorsports and having them do a PPI. They are only maybe ~30miles from Wallingford... Here is their website: http://www.fairfieldcountymotorsport.com/ Ask for Drew.

Good luck!

Hando, I don't know anything about the sales dept, but have been buying my parts from them for years. Marty in parts has been very helpful in securing parts for my 87 targa, and gives me a discount from retail. They repaired the rear spoiler on my turbo when I first bought it. Their prices were typically dealer prices. I now have my car serviced at an indie shop, if I can't do the work myself. I'm happy to drop by there tomorrow morning to give the car a once-over. Won't be as good as a PPI, but I can at least let you know my impressions.

Thanks for the offer Brain Police.

I am stopping by there today (April 10) on my to NY (with my wife & kids!) to give it a test drive so don't want to take your time until I know if I am really interested.

Well...were you able to convince your wife that the 996TT is a reasonable family car? Quite the coincidence, running into you at the dealership. It was nice meeting you, and I wish you all the best with your turbo search.

That's a riot. Did you laugh out loud?

Great looking car, get the PPI elsewhere (have them do a DME dump for codes and over-revs), get them down a bit and looks good!

Brain Police, Good to meet you and thanks for checking out the car. Seemed in very good shape to me and the salesman let me take the whole family out for a test drive which was cool of him. My older boy said he thought his head was going to snap off during acceleration. Nice! My wife not quite ready for a turbo.....she is pushing for a non-turbo which I don't really want to do. Likely I will lose this car before we can come to an agreement but as you said another one will likely pop up soon enuf.
