997 S 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, 1/4 mi 12.6 seconds

Amazing numbers put up by Car and Driver for the new Carrera S. Only 1/10 off the GT3's 0-60 run and .2 off the turbo's time (both as run by Car and Driver also).

Very impressive, and vastly different from factory times and those stated in other road tests, but with a new car, and realizing that p-cars get faster as the engines break in, this is quite an improvement.

Imagine what the 997 TT will do.

Even better, imagine what the 997 TT will do in the hands of Matt Fresh!

Those numbers are NOT indicative of 997S performance. The car was a ringer or something else happened. The acceleration increase relative to the changes made (and weight gained) over the 996 w/ X51 are not believable (or possible). How the hell would this car run with the much higher reving (higher HP) GT3? Incidentally, these numbers aren't far off the GT3RS. Yeah, right!

I'd have to agree. After my test drive in the 997S, I don't see how those numbers are possible. Porsche engines (esp. NA) do loosen up with mileage but, based upon the acceleration I experienced, the S would have to really loosen up - a lot. Reminds me of that one NSX that ran a 12.8 (I think) @ 112 mph. I never saw another NSX test come close to that time/mph. But you never know, perfect weather, surface, driving, etc... Motor Trend ran that "never seen again" 11.9 @ 116 in an '01 Turbo; however, that performance was believable considering the car's power.

Non OEM rubber along with maybe a non OEM motor...

Rubber with better grip will provide a better 0-60 time but it won't provide a higher trap speed like that. Something is up.

Most likely they timed it with the driver sitting with one hand on the wheel and the other hand on stopwatch, watching the MPH needle :P

11.9 sec 1/4 mile

Rob,

I ran a 12.15 @ 115 in my stock 2002 TT (non x-50). And this was my first time at a dragstrip.

Paul,

That's a really good time. I should clarify my prior statement: "never seen again in another car magazine test". I fully believe others have run that quick/fast in stock (non X50) Turbos.
