Unhappy Mishap with my trailer...Any suggestions

Well I was putting the TT on my trailer this afternoon to take the car down to my indie for the new UMW clutch & misjudged the incline. This is a brand new trailer to me & even though I thought the incline was ok, the front aerokit got %$#% up. I'm sure this has happened to others, but I am just sick about it. It doesn't appear to be cracked other than in the on place & that is more surface.
I'm wondering if a good fiberglass shop can repair/repaint the lower kit or is it going to need to be replaced.
I would appreciate any feedback.

On a sidenote, the car is going in for the clutch & I ordered new Zero clearance turbos from Kevin. Can't wait to see how they perform.

It is amazing how low these cars actually ride. I have a 18' open trailer with a beavertail backend. The ramps are 5 1/2' long & the car still bottomed out on the ramps. Doe's anyone have an easy solution.

A good body shop should be able to repair that.

I guess you know now to use a set of 2x6's as a runup. Some guys use one long one, with a shorter one on top to improve the clearance.

Sorry to see the damage.

Yeah, on 1 of my older trailers, I had to lay some plank under both ramps to raise the ramp up 3 or 4 inches. I laid an 8footer down first then a 4-5ft piece on top and ALL of this wood was UNDER the ramp so you drive up onto the 2 layers of plank then hit the steel ramp. Lot of work and plank, but cheaper than body work and a new trailer.

I just had my car towed. The tow truck driver did a great job. See the picture of how he used planks. He never touched the car except the tow ring. I have three inches of clearance and a long overhang.

If that's an OEM front lip (polyurethane), fiberglass will not work on it. I had a few dents and dings in my front lip and my bodyman needed to add some poly on it. It didn't come out perfect b/c once the lip has a bend in it, it's near impossible to make perfect again unfortunately.

Thanks for the quick replies to everyone. I feel stupid that it happened. I always say that I need to slow down/think about what your'e doing when working around these cars. I've seen too many accidents/close calls with car + trailers. The lip is the factory Porsche aerokit. I don't think it is polyurethane, feels like fiberglass.

I had the same issue when I was loading mine into my enclosed trailer for the first time, and really F'ed the same exact lip... Except I did WORSE!

Anyway, I went out and bought FOUR 2X12 planks and use them to help the car into the trailer... Now I have zero issues... You could also pull the lip off...It's literally TWO phillips screws...

I did the same to mine so don't feel bad.

I fixed the problem in a manner different than listed above. What I do is jack the front of the trailer up. This makes the angle less acute. No boards to buy and it works well for me.

Tried that with my enclosed trailer and couldn't get it to work, hence the boards... However, this is the third cartrailer I've owned and they're all different!

Edwin is correct. The OEM aero is not glass and will not repair very well. I had the same problems. I solved it by destroying the spoiler completely at the track and then replacing with FG. For a low approach angle I am successful by backing my tow vehicle up onto 10" ramps thus giving a favorable angle for loading/unloading.

http://raceramps.com/trailerramps.html Raceramps are your friend. I do enclosed auto transport for a living and I have a custom set that will get most anything on a trailer without wood. Dont get me wrong, wood is damn effective, just not very professional in my opinion when you come to load a customers expensive car. Good luck with the repair and the new turbos! Kevin
