Oh I agree your cars are still a blast, but once you've been faster, fast isn't good enough for me

Have to agree with Al... I reduced boost by 0.3, lap times were not effected, infact I would go to far as say they were slightly quicker, maybe due to smoother less erratic power.

There is question that the factory tune has tried very hard at making strong, linear power. Th b igger the turbo, the higher the boost peak. Also the higher the boost, the higher the boost peak (on most turbos).

IE The same turbo will take more RPM to make it's max peak boost. Try punching it in 6th gear at 2,000 RPM, there is a boost ceiling that is RPM dependent.

Mike -- Good to hear that you are still happy with your car's performance. What sort of issues were you trying to avoid if you were to run your normal "high boost" performance file with the stock exhaust?

Kevin was concerned about the stock system being to restrictive. Honestly I don't notice it at all!

Larry rode in it... Did it seem anywhere near stock larry?

No motor is "bullet proof" if not tuned within its parameters. The stock OEM exhaust system is very restrictive (especially the catalytic converters) and will impact the performance of a modified motor to some extent. Depending on the tuner and his tune, this could be bad news for a modded motor, just slapping on the stock exhaust and expecting to change nothing. You could accelerate a number of issues with the turbos, the AFRs, the EGTs... whole host of things that were "fine" with the unrestricted system that now are radically changed, making an otherwise "bulletproof" motor a potential $25,000 hand grenade. You're more than welcome to give that a try, but I'll pass, thanks!

Here's the "REAL" kicker...

I've enjoyed this car more on the street in the last 3 days driving it to a client's location (about 95 miles RT each day) than ALL of the time driving it on the street combined. I've shown my taillights to a C6Z06 and a FR500 Mustang, as well as a couple of other cars wanting to play in traffic. I'm doing it without the drone... Without the added attention a loud exhaust gets around here with law enforcement, all while enjoying everything else about the car... Still pushes me back in the seat HARD, still handles and brakes as well as it always has... Still dead sexy to look at... Just not stupid loud... Which brings me to another point... I've never had the STOCK unmodified system on this car... I'm amazed at how well it sounds when you get into it with the windows down and the roof open... It's still got some growl. Certainly enough to make me happy... I'm pretty sure I won't be installing something else on the car, as the stock cans are making me happy.

Now I'll actually be able to take the car on long trips!

Mike

I understand wanting it quieter but to remove HP from what is commonly considered a "bulletproof" engine seems a bit drastic. Oh well. Have fun!

And I'm trying to make this a car we can enjoy on long trips...

Quite honestly, after driving Larry's EP2 Quiet, and then taking him for a drive in mine, I gotta say that my other exhaust wasn't THAT much louder...

I want to be able to drive this car on long trips, with my wife in the passenger seat, enjoying each other... Not both feeling like we're beat from the noise... Guess I'm getting old... But this is perfect for my needs...

Mike -

I can relate 100%. As my car has become more track oriented it has slowly slid from street friendly to well not so street friendly. I have been jumping in the wife's bone stock Z06 and running to costco or whatever and I have to admit it is a lot more sane ride and just as fun. The wicked fast acceleration is not there but the car is just much more fun to drive around town than my modded Z06.

Leave it to the good doctor to put it in terms everyone understands.

Running a lot of boost and race gas for multiple sessions is expense and very hard on the motor.
