How to open key fob for battery replacement?
I searched but didnt find anything. Since these keys are expensive, I really dont want to break anything. Any tips? This might be useful for other newbies in the future.
Key Fob...
Just take the O ring off the key so that the key sits by itself....then take a knife blade from a dull kitchen knife and pry it open. This is like neurosurgery with a hammer. Porsche guys are pussies when it comes to muscling parts and pieces around. you have to pry the two halves open...not rocket science. There's no phillips head screw in them....hence they pry apart. When it comes apart, carefully look inside and inspect how things go together in there so you get things in the right order upon installing the 12 volt battery and snapping it back together. Tab A goes into slot B....( being fascetious)
I think I can fairly accurately describe the interior without a picture since this is a rather simple setup. As you open the case simply by splitting the shell of the fob; open it with the little light side up. That's the same side as the push buttons are located on...there's a green circuit board that floats free in there and can fall out if you aren't careful...at the end of the circuit board are two metal prongs that hold the 12 volt battery (Energizer #A23 or equivalent on cross-index) in place. One prong is + and the other is -...make sure you put the battery in the proper orientation. Then simply realign the little circuit board in it's little keeper tabs and snap the cover shut. Voila! Push the button to make sure the little light blinks and you're good to go for another year or more. If a 68 year old guy with shakey hands can do this....you young computer-oriented whippersnappers can too. A picture might be worth a thousand words...but this does it in fewer than a thousand.
the car was sitting for 5 days and the remote is not working. The light on the key is not lighting up, so I figured it was a battery, but after reading the threads, there is a "sleep" mode. If it turns out to be the battery and not the "sleep" setting, I will get you a picture of the inside.

sorry if i'm thread jackin, i'm fairly new, but my key fob (2000 911) light blinks slowly. But what I really want is to know if you have a pic of the key fob.

lol i should of saw that one coming. Just checked out the google images, and found the key fob i have. But after the fob battery was changed the led seemed to blink slowly. any suggestion on what to do? thanks for the help btw
