996 GT2: 335 30 18s on rear?

Guys,
Has anyone tried 335 30 18s on the back of their 6-Gt2? Runny stock 12x18s. Any rub? Any other issues? ANYONE?? The tire ratings suggest that the 315s are more correct for 11x18. Then I see 335s recc for 12x18. More is better, right? BUT I don't want to screw up a nice car in the process of trying this out. [I have screwed up more cars over the decades trying the impossible and I don't feel like taking a baseball bat to my GT2 to make them work.]

You experiences appreciated. But, please, the only thing relevant is the 335 30 18 on the STOCK 12x18s.

Thanks

JR

Darkclaw13 is infamous around these parts
I think user BigBadBen has 335/30/18 on the back of his turbo, but I dont know the details of the fit and/or any modifications were needed.

Definately need an expert opinion on this one. I run 315's they are so close to rub. My gut feeling tells me that some modification maybe needed.

I'm in the same boat. Looking to buy a set of OZ 12x18 wheels for my 2 and would like to go to 335 on the tires. Would appreciate any advice.

335/30/18's will fit. But they do need a bit of persuasion!

can be done but not worth the limitation to suspension geometry.

I ran the Hoosier R6 in 335 most of last season on my 996tt. I don't dnow how my offsets compare to GT2 spec but John at CCW would know my specs if you know yours. You will probably need to cut away a portion of the inner fender liner right in front of the compressor on the driver's side. I also cut away some in the passenger side but it isn't anywhere near the turbo on that side.

Have ran the Toyo R888 33's in the rear for past year, on street, low and on the track... No rubbing issues what so ever, our GT2's don't have the fender lining problem the turbo's do..

I will say this though, I went down to a 315 but now Hoosier R6, the grip is 10x better then the 335 in Toyo R888, may not even want to go up in size, but it will work!

Thanks all. Helpful, especially iLLM3s comments. Nothing like direct expericnce.

Again, appreciate you guys taking a minute to give feedback. I am so sick of screwing up nice cars with overly aggressive mods. [I should have taken images of a poor 73 RS that I decided to fit a set of Ruf wheels on. They fit.. kinda. Big Hammer theory. Please remember, this was when not many cared what these were all about and it was...functional. Years later I decided to restore it and did it all but the body/paint. The poor guys at the body shop wanted to keep all the original sheet metal and spent SO many hours ...and lots of my $$ .. making the fenders correct again.]

Yup just like Zippy said, they will fit so long as you have a 12"+ wide rims and you cut the inner liner and roll the fenders which I did. I run neg 1.4 camber. I am stiill running RA1's but they won't be available much longer so R888's next for me. They are a great tire btw.
