993 TT vs 996 TT

Why has the 993 TT retained its value while the 996 TT has dropped?

But the 996 TT is so fast and beautiful...why would people not pay more for it?

Maybe because the 993 is the last of the air-cooled engines? I'm not sure, but I love my 996 no matter what

Edit: Darn! Rainey beat me by a second

My 996 TT is awesome so I don't know why you would downgrade to a 993TT for more money?

They are not priced by performance. It's simple supply and demand.

993TT's were not produced in mass. RWD and much lighter. 996TT's produced in mass. AWD and heavier. I love both of them. Both could be modified to the bone.

993tt is also a beautiful car but I prefer my 996tt. The interior is much better in the 996 IMO; I also prefer the look of the 996 from the doors back. To each there own. Great cars!

993TT is definitely AWD. You have to go back to the 964T to get RWD if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry guys, my friends 993tt was converted to RWD. Here is all the specs.
Horizontally opposed 6-cylinder; SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder; lightweight aluminum-alloy block, heads and pistons
Bore and stroke: 3.94" x 3.01"
Displacement: 3.6L. or 3,600cc
Horsepower: 400@5,750 rpm
Torque: 400 lb-ft @4,500 rpm
Compression ratio: 8.0:1
Cd: .33
Fuel system: Motronic electronic fuel injection and single-plug ignition with knock control
Induction: Twin intercooled turbochargers
AWD is correct.

In terms of appeal it's like comparing a late 60's Camaro vs a late 70's one to some folks. For some reason I keep reaching for the 993 keys even though the 996 is clearly the superior car.

Its not accurate to say 993TT prices haven't declined significantly in the last 4 years. The $90k cars I was considering in 2005 are $60k now.

They only made 1,400 993TTs, and there are a great many in-efficient cooling....err....air cooled guys who would never buy an efficiently cooled Porsche so there is a built-in demand.
