I was reading about these before and there's already a company that makes it for our cars.

I'm not a fan of having the display that high up in the car, as there's no need to put a light show on for the patrolman following you. Get a remote display that you can hide down low, mount the main detector unit up high for quality reception (but no lights), and whoever's behind you at night is none-the-wiser.

The lower the detector is mounted on the windshield, the better the laser detection performance.

I mount my V1 as low on the windshield as I can.

V1 tells you to mount it high on the windshield.... I would not count on a detector against laser.. its just going to tell you you were hit.. you need a jammer..

My guess is that if Mike (V1) had it to do over again, he wouldn't have put that out. Mounting the V1 lower on the windshield has no impact at all with regard to it's real world ability to detect radar.

As for laser, I have had several occasions where I received early warning. The officer normally targets either the front licence plate or one of the headlights. If his aim is bad, the closer the laser detector is to either of these targets the better the chance of it being hit by the laser beam. If the officer shoots outside of the unit's "lock-on" range (speed reading range) then there is a chance he will spray energy around his target, and a low mounted detector has a better chance of picking up this energy than a high mounted detector. Also, in a multi-car encounter, the officer's bad aim at the car in front of you is your chance to pick up the laser energy. Once again, the lower mounted detector has a better chance of picking up this energy. The times I've had early detection were mostly when the car in front of me was lasered. I have received early warning in a single car encounter (my car) when the officer shot out of range with bad aim.

P.S. I don't count on detection of either radar or laser. My V1 is just one tool of several that I use to improve my chances of going un-ticketed. But I will maximize all my tools, and mounting the V1 low is maximizing it's use.
