is this care salesman telling the truth
It might vary by state, but in FL, if a car is picked up in the state and driven out, a temp tag must be issued and tax collected for the state of florida. The tax paid, may or may not be honored towards your registering state (again, this varies by state). In MOST cases, it pays to just have the car shipped (assuming the dealer isnt trying to F you on that end) - especially after you consider the time off work, the plane trip, the hotels, and the costs of driving the car back. I give all my customers my wholesale cost on shipping to make the deal a bit sweeter. Good luck.
We have 50 states. Each state gets to make the rules as to the taxability of sales that take place in their state. I work for one of thoses State Departments of Revenue. Logic does not apply to tax law. The law is what the law is where you take posession. You need to educate yourself of the tax laws in your state and the state in which you intend to purchse the car. You need to do this before you buy the car. Once you have purchased, it is too late to do it different.
Can't wait to see your car in person at the next C&C4 in Boston. I shipped mine from Texas to Boston, but stil waiting for my title to be released by the bank. I should be registered and pay the purchase tax next week. I will let you know. What insurance company do you plan to us?
