friendly race against TT Trans am *Video*
Driving fast is incredibly addicting. However, once you get hooked on doing this in the controlled environment of a track (think corner workers alerting you of dangers, no unknown variables like potholes, and most importantly NO innocent bystanders), you'll never "race" on the street where there could be so many uncontrolled factors which could get you (or worse, someone who was "just driving home") seriously hurt and/or killed.
BTW, I'm in my early 30's, so would not consider myself an old man!

Please be safe out there on the public streets!
This "street racing" issue has been gone over on this forum many times. There's the group that's into street racing and posts comments and videos meant to be enjoyed by others with the same predisposition. Then there's the group that is always quick to decry such savagery and (correctly) point out how dangerous it is for both the doers and the bystanders.
Maybe what is needed is an "underground racing" section where the street racers among us can post to their heart's delight without fear of nagging. Hey, street racing going to happen anyway, so why not explore it.
I will say this, from the point of view of having 20 years experience as a criminal defense lawyer, such a forum would be a huge evidence vault for the police. Think about it. One of our stellar 6-Speed street mavins accidentally crunches a Prius (on second thought that may be excusable homicide) during a street race vs. some hideous plastic nosed American car, and the cops find all his posts and videos from his previous street escapades. Just something to think about.
Personally, I'm not much of a street racer because:
1. I never thought I would be lucky enough to own a GT2 and if I were to scratch it, I would commit Hara-Kiri.
2. My GT2 is a twitchy handfull. That provides all the thrills I need.
3. My only car accident ever in over 30 years of driving was when I was 17 and crashed my MGB by side swiping a Chevy Vega because of a loss of control during an impromptu "drag race" with a Toyota Celica. I learned my lesson.

The texas guys have it best, what with mexico right next door

pretty normal. unless you have drag slicks, then forget it.
I certainly did not want to sound like some sort of primadonna, because I've done exactly what is shown in the vid, a long time ago.
I don't roll out like that anymore.
I had an experience many years ago that made me aware how scary it can be for someone to have two vehicles rip by at high speeds when it isn't expected.
I was driving home late one night, in the middle lane on a fairly empty highway, and out of nowhere, a bike cranks by me in the fast lane.
Had to be going 150+.
Didn't expect it, startled the cr@p out of me.
About 1 second later, another bike cranks by on the RIGHT side!
After the first car went by, if I had moved even a couple feet to my right, the second bike would have gone right through me!
I always allow a HUGE amount of room front and rear now when rolling out.
Just a thought.
