I'd consider a C6 and SLK or a Boxster. The SLK got a great write up and I drove one. It is a great improvement over the original. For big power, you'll need a 55 or C6. The new boxster looks nice too but the SLK and C6 are faster.

I feel like the boy who cried wolf since I've talked about selling my turbo at least 2 other times...

I purchased a home a few months back and money has been relatively tight since then. While it's cool to have a *****in' car to go along with my *****in' place...I don't think my pocketbook is ready for such extravegance.

My turbo payment (purchase) is $1600/mo. Ideally, I'm looking for a $600-$750 monthly payment so I can put $850-$1000 a month back in my pocket - maybe take a nice vacation or buy an engagement ring

I'm not at all concerned about "stepping down" to a "lesser" car, but I know I will miss the power of my chipped turbo. From that standpoint, I think the C6 or M3 would be good replacements.

My ideal replacement is a Cayenne Turbo. That way, I still own a "Porsche", I can still mod like crazy, it performs like a bat out of hell (yes, I've already test driven), and it satisfies my desire for a practical SUV. Unfortunately, my payment on a used CT would be $1100 - only a $500 savings off my current payment.

Anyone selling their CT for cheap?

An M3 is nothing to be ashamed about. Good resale value too cause it's so damn popular and affordable. Can't live with a 2 seater (vette) anymore. I always find the back seats useful.

Having extra cash to spend on other things besides a car is good. You'll need it for the home mods

Arling, the SLK is a chick car. Probably even more chickish than my S2000.

You can be a male and a chick too.

The SLK is too feminine looking.

I'll add a vote for the C6 or a nice 993 C2S, and throw in a nomination for a used 2002 C2 coupe, which would fall within your price range.

The SLK55 is pretty sweet and borrows from the looks of the SLR, but I think it's a woman's car, much like the current SLK and CLK.

If you can buy vs. lease, and want something fast and exotic for a couple of years, how about a used Maserati? They took huge depreciation hits already, and can be had for about $60K.

Let us know what you decide to do.

i think they're calling the two door versions the 4 series and the four doors will remain the 3 series...

no more 3 series coupe....

so the m3 will be a sedan and the m4 will be a coupe....

is what i remember reading in some magazine....

If you really wanted to save some money, you could look at a number of sporty cars in the $30-40k range. The G35 Coupe, 350Z, and S2000 are all attractive and relatively quick cars. The S2000 and G35 offer similar/slightly better refinement than the C5 Vette.

I think that was the original intent. I think they will all be 3 series cars now.

Go for the C6. I had an M3 and it was a great car but I need power and the M3 has none ...

The M3 does make a much better daily driver though and is more practical with decent power and it handles great! Just don't expect to be nailed to the back of your seat.

I heard that the E46 M3 engine is already pushing the envelope. Has anyone turboed these things, or would that be catastrophic?
