996tt destroyed by fire -

Last night I was going out for dinner with my wife to celebrate my birthday.
'have you left the car running ?' she asks...'because I smell burning'
I go downstairs (we live in a bungalow with a garage undermeath the house) and the back of the car is aflame.
I realise this is extremely dangerous..my kids are in the house, and there is a boiler next to the car,if the flames get to the petrol.....forrtunately the fire brigade arrived in time, meaning my family and house were safe.
The car however.....I think will be a write off.
The fire brigade reckon it was an electrical fault, and bizarelly the radio and console had been playing up the previous 2 days.
10 minutes later we would have gone out and the kids would have been sat on the other side of the house oblivious to what was going on.
Thankgod we were still in.

Other than that, how did you enjoy your birthday?

Glad everyone is safe.

I am going to go out and buy a big-*** fire extinguisher and mount it right next to my car (the garage is right below my living room).

Fantastic Idea - it would be even better if you got an automatic extinguisher like this Fireboy. http://www.aetnaengineering.com/fire_extinguishing.html

That looks good. Is this a top-of-the-line producer? Any other recommendations? I know jack about fire extinguishers.

Hey Franki:

I'm glad your precious family was safe!

I guess that was a great Birthday present to your kids/family/self that you and your wife were home to take care of the situation.

You can see it this way. Even though your Birthday turned out unexpectedly different, you gained a reminding appreciation of life and health in this experience. Also, you'll most likely have a brand new Porsche TT or supercar replacement in your garage again shortly.

Take Great Care,
