Do I need a bigger intercooler ?

I have K16/24 turbo's and run 1 bar boost and I also have the GT2 intercoolers.
When it's outside 33 degrees celsius my intake temp, without boost is around 40 degrees celcius, under full boost in 5th gear the temp. rises till 66 degrees celcius
So that's 26 degrees more.
I had the blownsix but I didn't like the way they were build and sold them ( I never measured the ait because I didn't have durametric at that time)
I'm interested in the AWE or the Evom's intercoolers
Any suggestions ?

Gt2 intercoolers are fine for your power level...However the brands you mentioned are better...and they are more efficient...If you plan someday to upgrade turbos go for it...

makes sense that at k16 hybrid power level there is no need to go higher than GT2's. Skandalis is right chances are that the larger B6's or evoms units would have given you more lag and not much more power up top because your turbos are running out of steam by then.

have kevins k16s,i orig. installed gt ics, really did not notice any sop diff.changed to evo's and changed the piping at the same time (also evo's stuff)the car is way faster and i don't notice any increased lag.

am going for a drive shortly and will try to pay attention the lag thing, it is quite warm here sooooo the car is not running at it's best..but most cars are still living in my rear view mirrow

well, your K16's have K26 compressor housings, much bigger than most K16 hybrids. This could be part of the reason. If they are kevins stge2 that is..

Any links to data supporting this???? As compared to X50/GT2 intercoolers?

Never seen it, heard people raving about how they just spend money on new intercoolers and their car is great, but zero data on comparative efficiency of various intercoolers. I am truly curious.

thx

A

Ard, just want to know why you don't think IC's offer a benefit? In cold weather I can agree with you, but in hot weather and doing lots of hard driving all at once does make a difference..

Funny thing is that prior to upgrading turbos I did not notice a difference between hot days and cold days. Now with bigger turbos, the difference is big.

Thanks for the replies, maybe it's best to keep the GT2 intercoolers but I thought 26 degrees celcius difference between no boost and boost was to high.

Maybe need is a strong word, but if one wanted some evoms or similiar IC and new boost hoses would we see an increase in overall system efficiency from less pressure drop accross the the IC's and cooler intake charge? Or is this simply not needed and not a good use of money for us with limited or stock hp.

The GT2 ICs are not much improvement over stock, hence the reason they trade hands for around $400 usually. Might as well spend the money ($1500-2500+) on good ones if you are gonna do it all.

....or $650 on an Aquamist kit. More versatile. You can spray water, meth or a combination of both.

Great idea buty most guys with that set up usually say (at a later time) that the set up is just a pain to maintain)... that goes for all cars not P cars only...

I talked to one guy that just had it put in and he is already unhappy with leaks etc...
just my .02 cents...
