Anticipating 1st time on track

Hi there again..almost 1 month with the 996TT and already stunned by the power and handling. As from monday I am expecting my new JIC with adjustable top mounts and medium hardness at the springs to staight out the suspension, and my new GT3RS 6-pot brakes disks and pads.

As this is going to be the 1st time that I will be putting this car into a track (at this track i have about 1000 laps combined motorbike and car) I would like you to share your track experience with me.

Initially if you have any proposed settings for this particular suspension setup.

I have PS2 rubber on them running them at manufacturers pressure -2psi. What would be the ideal pressure to use them on track? From your experience and for prolonged track use what type of tyres would you reccommend? I am considering getting another set of PS2s.

As far as the brakes are concerned, would you recommend any particular type of brake fluid and any specific type of pad?..

Please feel free to add any info that you consider important but I have not mentioned.

thanks!..
Lefteris

The PS2's are great to begin with. Drive them until you start to overdrive them, then go to R compounds. PS2's work well at the track if you start at 26/28 cold and keep checking them to hit 36/38 hot. If you hit 40 or more, them become greasy. I use SRF and never have to think about brake fluid problems. Others like Motul 600. For the track I recommend you stay away from lesser products. I don't have the JIC system so can't comment on them. If you continue doing track, you will want racing pads, but stock will be fine for the first time. I use Pagid yellows front, Pagid blacks on the rear. This helps to balance the front brake bias of the 996TT by putting more bite in the rear. I got a year out of my last set. I also did the 6 piston setup and it does make a difference on track. I recommend that you get some adjustable sways front and rear, as the stock units are not up to the task on track. You might also consider a stock 997 shifter unit. Shorter throws, very smooth and precise, very reasonable price. Good luck. The car is a blast to drive on track.

Might want to consider an H&R rear sway bar (adjustable) to dial out some understeer down the road. It's pretty cheap.

I highly recomend Pagid Yellows all 4 corners and Motul 600 , SRF is great if you dont mind the $$'s. I would change to race pads even the first time especially if you are on a high speed track. Get a Motiv power bleeder and bleed your brakes before track day. check your air pressure per landjet's suggestions.

These cars are a blast on a straights, but they are very heavy and takes a lot of braking effort to stop. I like it , but i am looking at a dedicated light race car for track days...like built e36 m3 , it will be more fun, cheaper to fix if i crash or blow up the motor/tranny.

Many thanks for your comments guys!..

Landjet very usefull info you provided me with! I will look into the info you suggested and make proper arrangements..Adjustable sway bars is the thing as it seems. I have heard that the ones from the GT3 are good enough. Any comments on this or any will do just fine?

I have the gt3 bars and they work great. The jic's I run about 5 clicks in the front and 7 clicks in the rear. This should keep the front end secure and great control. Have fun!

Are these settings for the track or street?

When you change sway bars, get some good drop links like from TRG or Tarett. Stock one are OK for the street.

once you get the JIC's with camber plates you need to go to Hoosier R-6's with about -2.8 front camber, then you will be smokin

I had your initial springs and changed to the heaviest ones front and rear to control dive and squat.

take your time, be careful and have fun!

H&R fit better as they're made for the turbo. They're all similarly priced.

Most people forego the fronts as it's a lot of work with the AWD and really all you need is rears to dial out understeer.

You gotta listen to this man right here. I've seen videos of him driving, you don't want to be in his car

I am not very familiar with the JIC setup for road nor for track use. As you remember my car is the one belonged to madsex (one of the 2-3 fastest 996TT in greece). It does need proper setting up to be able and put the power down. I have been able to see 345 so far but the car after 300 feels extremely unstable. So it is also for safety issues that I need a suspension like the JIC. I assume that I will have a setting for track and another for road. I do not think that I will be changing the springs as the car is also used for leisure driving.

Tom how do you "Attack" a bend that required 3rd gear?.. do you try to start accelerating before the apex correcting with minor counter steering the back side? ..i am try and find links to your videos...
