Mid-Ohio DE + video
Mid-Ohio DE + video
Did a DE at Mid-Ohio this past weekend with Mid-Ohio Region PCA. They implemented new passing rules for instructors: anywhere, any side, with a point. Since I've neveer raced, it made for some more interesting situations. The only down side from my perspective is that we were not allowed to take our students out in the instructor sessions, so it was hard to find time to show them what I was talking about in their cars. Here's a couple of laps from early Sunday am:

My new GT3 brakes worked well. The pedal never felt rock-hard to me, but it was consistent through the runs. I bled the brakes again, but the pedal never got to where I really liked the feel of it.

I couldn't play the video Jon. Glad you are back in the swing of things.
My brakes feel the same as my stock brakes once I got all the air out of the lines. Keep bleeding them till they feel right.

good stuff Jon!! as for the brakes I will post a new thread latter, but I have found for aggressive track driven TT's with bigger brakes you may need to go to the Cup car master cylinder. more fluid, more pressure....dont want to steal the thread will post that up for you guys latter.
I'm headed off to Europe for a month, and will flush the system again before I go to Road America in October. If I still don't like the feel, Tom's suggestion sounds like a good one.
Did you ever post your after-event evaluation of your suspension mods?

It says it is a private video.
EDIT: It is your video, so it would work for you regardless of the privacy settings. I clicked on the embedded video and it says, "This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender's friend request." When I go to youtube, the video window doesn't even appear, it just says, "This video is private."
EDIT 2: The video is working now. Thank you.

Dropped by your garage Jon but unfortunately you weren't in.
Mostly great weather eh?
Saw you on the front straight and you were boogieing.
I was in the black 993tt running mostly w/ two old racers in their grey/blue Z06's. Watching Chip doing consistent 4 wheel drifts thru Turn 1 was a trip. I'll post some video if I can figure how to edit stupid quicktime video.

Yeah, I have to admit that I do. The driver of the yellow one was my instructor about 10 years ago. I think it's a new car for him, though.

Weather was great, except for Saturday afternoon. I was riding with my buddy when it started. It was completely dry on the back, and then when we hit turn 1, there was nothing! He did a complete 360 coming out of that turn. Stayed on track though, and had a nice story to tell. Tires don't flat-spot when you're hydroplaning.I'll look forward to seeing your video. Sorry I missed you at the track. Which group were you running in?

i saw you and your car on 71 Sunday. I was heading the other direction with a few Pcars and such (GT2, C2, GTR, E55, Viper, etc) to lambo cars and coffee. We should have went to the DE instead of Cars and Coffee..haha...
Glad you had fun...

I have gloves, but I really don't like them so I don't wear them if I don't have to.
Those are Michelin PSC's. Mid-Ohio replaced their concrete patches in the corners with the black compound you see in the videos. It makes the tires squeal a lot, but it has a lot more grip than the other part of the track. It seems especially noisy in the morning when the track is cold.
I haven't had very good luck with Hoosiers. They seem a bit faster, but they wear really fast, and I've had trouble with them staying sealed on the rims.
