Anyone here a Dealer?

On a small scale? I am thinking about becomming one. Seems like a good thing to do if you like buying and selling nice cars...

Porsche has tried at least two times I am aware of to rid themselves of dealers. Once in the early 80s, when I think the dealers group was headed by Alan Johnson, and the group used the PAG/dealer contract to put an end to any further action by PAG. Porsche wanted to retain scaled down showrooms but wanted to farm service out to independents. Service was and still is very good at many independents. And a second time, not sure when.

The movement in Europe by OEMs has been to create large delivery ceners at the plants. and if you look at the margins for dealers, there is little meat. IMHO, Porsche will try again to do away with dealers. Interesting food for thought.

I own a small used car lot and yes it is nice to buy and sell
cars without paying taxes! I must say that we are doing
quite well as a business too! Right now the market for us
is selling clean cars from $5000.00 to $20,000.00. We can
make the same amount of profit on a $5000.00 car as we can
on a $60,000.00 car at times.
