Yeah I think there was a question about a good indy in Chi-town not too long ago. Do a search and should be able to find it...

Try Midwest Eurosport in Bensenville. They have a great reputation. They just did a brake fluid full flush with ATE Super Blue for $82. including tax

I just did a 30K service for $1500 and that's including spark plugs and coils, the dearler is charging about $1700. You can get a list of work and price for a 30k service, etc. on edmunds.com, but it's a little off, just and idea.

My local Porsche dealer gave me a quote of $1350 for the 30K. For those of you that have had things found while doing the service at the dealer, do you take the car to an indy to confirm? It is starting to sound like when you go to your nearby quick lube for an oil change and they find cracked belts, a need to replace every fluid, bad wipers, air filter, a leak in your tire, ...

If you don't want to pay the full dealer price, search for a reputable independent porsche mechanic in your area. Usually they cost a little less and do a little more. Ask for a checklist of things that they performed on your car.

Sol seems like a very knowledgeable professional. if his work is on par with his knowledge , i have a feeling i've found my new mechanic.

With all of these numbers being thrown around, I would hope most people would learn to work on their own cars, at least for the easy tune-up stuff. $200-$300 for coils, $10 for plugs and it takes me ~2hrs for a plug change (coils if I need them too, as I am in there). Oil change cost me about $85 for parts (9qts of Mobil 0w40 at $7 a quart and a $13-$15 filter) This might be an hour job. The guy at the dealer had to learn how to do it, so can you. The Porsche tax knows no boundaries...

@ttboost - isnt it time vs money?
seems like you can do it rather quickly, but i would imagine it'll take me some time to both acquire the necessary equip, and learn how to perform it.
while I would love to learn and perform some of this work myself, at this point in my life, I cant justify the time it'll take me.

an additional factor for me would be the risk. I would rather learn how to change oil on my motorbike, than on my porsche. the cost of err is higher on the p-car.

anyhow, as i said, I do agree. i hope than sooner than later i'll know how to performance basic maintenance on my p-car.

Yes, true, you have to want to do it. Maybe after paying it a few times the incentive will be there to learn. I do it myself out of necessity. Good Luck and have fun!!!

With that said I've changed the oil on probably a dozen or so different cars and I can say without question the 996TT is so easy its almost a joke. you need two tools and a oil catch and your set. Do a little research it may very well be worth your time. It can be done on a cool car in no more than 20 minutes.
