Stock Oil level check & Boost gauge accurate?

just got the car and playing with the dash. Was suprised to see a boost gauge and oil level check. I'm within the bottom 2 bars. Are these accurate?

thanks!

OIL: get it up to temp, add a half quart and check it again. You want it at least up to the bottom of the top 2 bars, where the line is.

As far as stock boostgauge: it's more of a guide line. if it says 1.2, you could be making 1.24 or 1.16, never know.

In your case, 1.2 bar means 1.6 bar.

Car was already hot. To confirm you mean get it with in 2 bars down from the top of the range?

0.6 bar on avg.

Thanks.

You can get a more accurate reading with a Durametric, but it doesn't sample the data fast enough to be exact.

BTW, I have a stock turbo and at the track I see sustained boost at .7 or .8. I have seen several reading of 1.2 bar - and they are not accurate. Tony from EPL gave me the best explanation of this:

"The 996tt DV's are controlled by a vacuum solenoid thats cycled by the ecu. At high rev's, when you let off the gas quickly, the throttle plate will actually beat the ecu to open the DV's.

This will cause a boost "spike" on the dash that will never reach beyond the throttle plate. "

right, inbetween shifts. the stocker gauge doesn't pick these up.

wow, if 0.6bar feels like this, and if you guys are sustaining 1.2 bar... standard internals can't take this can they (assuming uprated fuel system/turbos/mapping)?

It’s my understanding that you get a dramatically better hp/torque curve when you flash (in addition to more boost pressure), but others are far more knowledgeable and reliable then me.

When I bought my car I literally said - who the h$ll would want to change this car in anyway, especially more power...

2 1/2 years later and I am:
Upgrade suspension to PSS10
Flash with UMW or Revo
Europipe Exhaust

"...at least up to the bottom of the top 2 bars...". Is that written somewhere?

No...it is personal preference and "wives tales". I keep mine between the top and never let it go below 2 bars down...I believe each bar is about .25 qt. (of course it is designed for metric measures...LOL)

I just make sure it stays above the minimum mark. I normally wait until the level indicates one or two bars from the bottom, then add a full quart.
