Its interesting how the emotions of the posts started with "DO IT!!" and as rationale kicked in, started saying "no, don't do it."
We all get pretty excited about cars here!
Do it if the $50,000 ( incl tax and NOT including the loss on your new cab also ) that you see fluttering away into the sky the moment you drive off the lot doesn't bother you and you plan to keep it for years - very doubtful .
At this point in the development cycle , someone is better off buying an '01 Turbo and adding a chip for total investment of $77-$80K to equal the " S " performance and waiting for the 997 Turbo.

I heard the 997TT won't be out for 1.5 years. When it does come, unless you want to pay way over sticker you'll have to wait anyway. I say get the Turbo "S" until you can get a resonably priced 997TT is 2-2.5 years

Guys - you are too much. This was great feedback, and yes, the excitement factor was big. And yes, I did brush off a small spot of dirt I saw as if it was mine. And yes, I have thought of little else the past 24 hours.
But the reality check hit me today on the way into Plug Headquarters. 1) it's a boatload of dough, no matter how great the car, 2) it's a phenomenal piece of machinery, and I like the 996 over the 997 for now, 3) the odds of me getting in one that I would spec out would be low, but I think I could, yet the deal would not be that great, and 4) I really LOVE the C4S Cab.
Then I went to the configurator, and built out a TTS Cab to MY specs, and it came in a few bills below this coupe in the showroom.
NOW WHAT AM I TO DO?

I guess I'll pass for now. The C4S Cab is great, and I ordered it up pretty damn special anyway, so I'll probably ride off into the sunset in that one for a few years. But I still have that little Turbo devil sitting on my left shoulder barking in my ear.
Thanks for all the advice. Appreciate it.
Now if everyone would get on BumperPlugs.com and ORDER a bunch of stuff, MAYBE I could join the fraternity.

BTW, you should buy a used turbo cab and do a balloon payment to keep costs low. Otherwise, lease a new Turbo "S" cab, with the high residuals, I'll bet your payment is similar to the C4S cab!!Lou
Eric,
I for one pledge to buy a rear wiper delete "kit" from you to start this pledge drive. Now are there no others amongst you that will help a fellow brother in need?
I indeed compliment you on your present restraint; but we all know that it is just a matter of time-maybe not this year but one day.
Oh BTW if you made your decision on sound financial grounds it is recommended that you do not, I repeat, do not drive that Turbo! I, sinner that I am, turned in a perfectly beautiful and faithful Silver 996 for a stunning Zanzibar Red TT hussy.
So turn your back on these wicked ways while you can. As for me- it is too late. I am lost in the never ending search for providing my Bebe with HP. Anyone got some extra boost?
