2005 Turbo S value and questions

Any idea what these are worth these days? - are they really rare - how many imported?

Of those of that have one, are you happy with your purchase? I assume it's a long term keeper.

TIA

I have a similar question as I am contemplating getting one in lieu of my Carrera S. Input, please. Would it be worth it to change from a 2006 Carrera S with X51, Aerokit and other options for a 996 Turbo S or 2002- 996 Turbo with X50? Take everything into consideration including the obvious better engine and transmission. Thanks!

Had a Turbo S cab for a bit over a year. Great car! Loved the ceramic brakes and how they did not leave brake dust on wheels. Put 20k in Proto flash, wheels, tires,Fabspeed exh, painted lip and rockers etc...Sold it last Nov for 75k with 15k miles. Bought it pretty much stock with 10.5k miles. You don't wanna know what I paid. Alot less than its new price but alot more than what I got. '

I did enjoy the hell out of it though, so that has value. If I could do it over again I would not have bought a vert and if it was a coupe, I would still have it and had not bought a coupe a few months after I bought the S.

I also have one a Yellow cab. Great car and very fast. Faster than an X50 996TT. Why, who knows but mine is a gem. Only 250 NA cars. 150 were cabs. Most are black and silver. rarest colors are white, blue and yellow.

I have one. bought her stock in January in the late $70k's. Worth every penny IMHO. Now coming from me that means something, I am as picky as they come. Sometimes perfection is still not good enough for me!

I have to say the car is MINT! Most of my mods are in my Sig. And I believe are mandatory for this car. I do not believe in going overboard on mods either, there IS a happy medium for this car without risking potentialy serious mechanical failure. Here are some other facts.
  • Currently with 6k miles exactly 6017 as of today
  • Purchased the car Bone Stock added mods myself. (I am a 30 Year Veteran Engineer) Built a few turbo Cars in my time. Consider my work as meticulous as anyone, and I enjoy doing it. It is why I bought the car
  • One Touch SmartTop upgrade (Great Mod by the way)
  • Never Tracked, NEVER will be, at least not by me
  • Not a daily driver, the true definition of a "Garage Queen" gets a good run once in a while. Gets dusted, buffed and polished a lot.
Only other mods being considered are:
  • Aquamist HFS-6 Water Methanol injection for in cylinder cooling ONLY not performance, she is fast enough at the moment.
  • Dual Port Air intake (If I can find one that looks more like stock)
  • Blue Color coordinated Alcantera Seat Inserts and door panels
  • IMHO this car was build to be modded, but all good things should be done in moderation
Issues since I got it:
  • MAF Failed, replaced with new one no trouble since
Main selling points of a car like this and others I have owned (IMHO):
  • Mileage
  • Body & Paint Condition (Always get a professional Inspection before you buy, no matter how good you think you are)
  • By the way did I say mileage?
  • The car you choose must have NEVER had any accidents no matter how minor, CARFAX can help here, the Inspection if done by a reputable oraganization should also reveal any previous damage
  • I personally do not like previously tracked cars
  • Did I mention Mileage!
  • Nothing depreciates a collectors car like mileage, if you want it as a run about this is not really that important, but be aware it WILL depreciate. The 2005 turbo S is a "Border Line" Collectors car IMHO, an "In the Eye of the Beholder" thing. If not today, I think good specimens will be one day, again this is my opinion, I could be wrong.
Plans to sell? Not at the moment, but of course money talks. I have been had a grip of exotics in my time. I have been very lucky with them and to date (touch wood) have not lost money on any of the the ones I consider a "Collector". Examples Include: Lotus Esprit Turbo S4, V8, Elan S4SE, Triumph TR6, Ferrari 328 GTS, Dino, Boxer Berlinetta, Morgan Plus 8 to name a few.

Most Fun car I have owned, remember I am over 50 :
  • Lotus Esprit V8 (Just an all round Great hobby car)
If I was to sell, what would I replace it with (Gotta have at least one exctic in the shed)?
  • Ferrari F430 Spider
  • Ferrari 360 Modena Spider
  • Ford GT

According to Last Edition of Porsche Excellence Magazine Coupes are rarer than Cabs but are similar in value. But again a REALLY good Low Mileage Specimen will blow these numbers out of the water. Not so sure why folk want a Coupe but each to their own.

They are measured by condition:
Coupe:

Low: $45k
Good: $51
Excellent: $69

Cab:

Low: $45k
Good: $51
Excellent: $69

Me thinks you read the article wrong...For 2009 the prices ($K) are:

coupe
low: 45.7
Good: 52
Ex: 69.6

Cab:
Low: 45.5
Good: 51.7
Ex: 69.3

The prices you gave are all for a cab purchased in 2008 and 2009....

You thinks correct! Sorry I stand corrected. I was reading the wrong line. Coupes and Cabs are about the same. I was rounding down though.

Thanks

Wow, 20k difference; I knew I should have gotten a coupe. It is lighter, it is faster. Anyone up for an even trade... +20k?

Edited:
I withdraw MO.

Thanks - do you think an X50 package (on a 996 TT) adds much to resale value?

If it was in OC, $85,000. Rest of World $45,000.
