Should I get the full Protomotive intake system?
Stock intake will choke bigger turbos period... has anyone seen the BS piping that goes to the turbos? The proto set ups works.. so does the evoms and other aftermarket piping...
If you do the intake behind the wheels to fit correctly it will benefit you big time.
this is what I have been working on but the 3 inch round seems to rub on 12 inch rims.. so we are trying to go oval 3 inch thus reducing the OD form 3 to 2 3/8th OD...
here it is...
stock junk :

my 3 inch round....

90 bends (custom ovals) ready to be cut...

It doesn't look good for the ranch so far, because one of my good friends and his g/f can't go.
Mark I about had a heart attack when I pulled out my stock tubes to put in my EVOMS ones. I was like you've got to be KIDDING me that I was trying to suck so much air through such a poorly designed intake setup (granted it was only made for cars making ~450crank HP).
tim , im actualy suprised to hear you say that . i dont think anyother intake comes close to the protomotive style intake .. as chris said , they found away to shorten everything and get a good ram air effect .. kind of a no brainer , and the larger piping is nice also , im sure that doesnt hurt either .
to tale full advantage you need to flow a good amount of air, on a k24 , dont waste your time . you see what i mean ,
Chris they should put screens on those things .. so they dont suck up small children and animals... lol

I'm getting that Mustang body kit done also!
Sean I was talking to my buddy a little while ago on the phone. He said he maybe interested in running you in his farm truck from like 40-110mph. Anything more than that and it's not very safe in a farm truck
Nothing to be scared of it. I mean it's just a Mid 90s Dodge Single Cab diesel truck that makes almost a 100lbs of boost

I think Tim is right. I have used both intake systems. I went from the EVO hard pipe kit to the full Protomotive and back to the EVO hard pipe kit again. I did not notice any difference in performance between the two kits. That includes spool and accelleration. If anything, I think a good dyno tune can have more of an effect than the intake style, that is if you are beyond the OEM pipes and are comparing the 70mm EVOMS hard pipes vs. the Proto style pipes. As an example, with my latest EPL tune (it has some improvements that have been developed over last year's file), I have better throttle response and quicker spool than ever and I think it is tune related.
That said, I do miss the externally vented diverter valve sound upon let-up of gas, which was kind of cool and a by product of the full Proto system. I am not a fan of external wastegate sound though and would not put those on my car after riding in a car with them...way too much noise for me!

The Proto style intake is the best intake period. If you look at the Excellence Magazine a few years back, the month which had the tuner shoot out you will see that they raved about this intake system. If it were not that good, then why did EVOMs switch to this setup style on Joe's Moster?
Food for thought

I do know that going from 3 to 2.5 inch piping on 30r type of turbo will choke it up a bit...
going from a stock set up to a 2.5" more then enough for most people...
With all that said, the highest HP cars, for the sake of argument lets say are Protomotive and evom's built, do have a serious intake system upgrade... Even Joe's car I believe has all hard piping including the Y pipe and last time I heard him say that they did not know where they were going to scoop up the air into the turbos from...
bigger piping, less restrictive works... there are more then one ways to get there though...
