Preparing the 996 for the mile.. New fuel system, dyno..

In preparation for the standing mile run this Sunday (October 11), the 996 needed a fuel system make over to feed E85 to the motor in the higher gears. This new fuel system includes twin Bosch 044 fuel pumps mounted externally, which were prior in-tank, accompanied by a 1 gallon fuel surge tank mounted in the bonnet. -8 feed line is now run from the pumps to the rail. A stock pump will now house inside the stock fuel tank to feed the surge tank.

After installing the new fuel system, I strapped the car on the dyno to check everything out. Fuel is now perfect, and the car is making more power then ever. My new personal best power is 717rwhp and 713rwtq on a completely stock motor.

My goal for the mile will be 200+.

Good power Chris. TurboMike on his 996 TTS put down 720rwhp on dynamics which you know it's the heart breaker of all dynos. He is pushing almost 800whp on stock bottom end not to mention 91 plus Meth which is good. We've learned a lot these few years that these cars can still withstand more power on stock bottom end with the right fuel and tuning. GL and be safe my friend.

Isn't that surge tank just a little dangerous?

Can someone explain to me the logic behind the surge tank and how is it sufficient that a stock fuel pump pumps the fuel from the stock tank to the surge tank??

This is how I understand it and let me know if I'm right, The Bosch pumps are now mounted under the car with the surge tank being mouted higher than the pumps. I'm thinking the surge of fuel will occur at wot during shifts? This way the surge tank is a sump and is a reserve when the extra fuel is needed? What I'm curious of, is how do you determine how big the surge tank needs to be? Is the stock pump gonna be enough to keep feeding fuel into it from the stock tank? This sounds like a drag only setup?

+1 on the wheels, they remind me of what all the kids run on their little Scions around here, but look sweet on your car.

tell you the truth the surge tank is more of a road race setup, the 044's always have fuel on demand even if the car is upside down they still have fuel. the stock pump is just fine to feed the surge tank since the return line is always dumping into as well. another problem with not running a surge tank is you could have the biggest pump in the world in the tank but you are still coming out the top with a little line, of course you can cut the top but thats just a mess.
