Longevity of aftermarket-modified 996TTs?
Longevity of aftermarket-modified 996TTs?
Folks-
I am thinking of buying a Protomotive/ EVOMS modified 996 TT to use as a track car (~about 700 bhp). It has a number of other unusual mods - like a GT3RS tranny.
Any notions of the lifespan opf these cars for racing? Assuming one maintains it in proper order.
From the 40 or so Ruf RTubos (less bhp - from 520 to 690 bhp), about 90% are still around, but I don't know if these are heavily tracked cars.
Not trying to start a flame war here, just curious.
Thanks in advance - Gerry

My car is a 2001 that was modified shortly after it was purchased, and has gone thru a number of builds, mods by the original owner, and then perfected by me... Yea, pretty ****y, but it's the way I see it... Guy took the car 80% and I finished it off...
They're pretty darned durable as long as the owner has followed the guidance of a well respected builder.

Gerry depends on the history of use or abuse of the car. I would have the engine checked very carefully including cylinder leak down etc. I personally am always wary of previously modded cars. really need to know the car you are buying and its history.
as for racing a car like that, well now you are barking up my tree and I have alot of experience doing that. so if you do get a car like that and do start to race it better pm me!!

the higher the boost the more stress on an angine. Race fuel allows higher boost. If you run lean, due to bad fuel, you can detonate and cause serious damage to any engine prematurely. So definitely check out a modded car well. To many cars are tuned to run on the ragged edge
