GT2 Poser in Scottsdale, AZ
BMW drivers and Mercedes drivers are FAR worse offenders slapping ///M or ///AMG badges on their cars.
sometimes they don't even bother to change the other letters.
for example, ///M325i
or S430 ///AMG
pretty funny every time i see one. and also the look they give when you pull up in the real thing.

I am Russian, so I thought that it was too funny (and sad at the same time), I mean c'mon... just debadge it if you are going to mess with it!
dgussin1, watch it.
this is something that certain members of all ethnic groups do. it's stupid but it's silly of you to say that it's common with middle easterners and asians. kinda like saying white trash and their 9in lifted suspensions.

While at a Porsche dealership in Scottsdale, AZ yesterday, there was what looked like a GT2 sitting outside on display. It had all body accents, wheels, wing, even badging... But I looked inside and saw tiptronic!
Can someone please enlighten me as to why people do such crap like this?

About a year ago an older gentlemen pulled along side KA with his family. He asked if it was a Porsche and then said that he had followed along for about a mile and that the sound of the exhaust was the best sounding exhaust he had ever heard.
I guess my point is, what difference does it really make. Why would I want to deprive someone else of their dream and enjoyment? On the contrary, I would look at it as a compliment to the real thing.

I think some of you are missing the point.
I T ' S A P O R S C H E for crying out loud!
No matter if it's a 996 C2 or a 996 GT2, it's still a great car and a car that most people can't afford. Why be embarressed when you own such a great car? That's just silly. To put a GT2 bodykit on a turbo is one thing. But to put a GT2 badge on it is just meaningless. It's still a 996tt. For many, this is the car of their dreams.
But to put a BMW badge on a Honda is another story
Could the GT2 be his initials - Like George Thomas II?
Why put badges on in the first place? As someone mentioned earlier - anyone that would know would recognize the car. Most people see a Porsche and it is a Porsche - doesn't matter what flavor. To those who know Porsches, changing the badges doesn't make it different.

There's a guy running around town here with a black TT with a GT2 kit on it. Looks great, but he's got the GT2 painted on in green pearl paint, rather than just an emblem. I figure, if you're going to go that far, might as well switch out the ebrake handle and shifter **** to not say turbo on them as well...

That would be an excellent argument if it was a known stock model versus a known stock model with equal drivers. A good driver in one versus a bad driver in the other would scew the results. You just can't made a good judgement without all the facts anymore.
Take KA for instance. With a turbo badge, an unknowing person would be wondering how it beat a GT2. If it had a GT2 badge the unknowing would be thinking
The only place it really matters is in concourse and there the so called "fake" would get killed.
Is the issue that the car has another car's rightful name, or that the badge suggests the car is something other than stock? I think it is dishonest to take a name of another model. But a badge like "986" or a new name invention to convey other than stock ("turbo-GT") is OK because it is not deceptive. In fact a new name is rather more genuine on a modded TT than a stock badge. How is that for twisting the logic around.
