Protomotive intake versus intercooler ducting

Can anyone tell me if there is a significant effect on the cooling efficiency of the intercoolers if the intercooler ducting is removed (a la Protomotive)? While you gain better intake flow to the turbos, don't you essentially block airflow to the the bar/plate surface of the intercooler?

You dont need to remove it if you use the right filter. When I was running the Proto 700 setup with fender intake I used 2.5" long, narrow filters. If you need part #s let me know. I wouldnt go 3", not needed IMO.
