Thumbs up Speedtech Y-Pipe, 2.5" hoses and EVO ICs

Got my car back today.

Here is the list of mods:

Speedtech Y-Pipe Painted red
Red Speedtech 2.5" upper hoses
EVOMS Clubsport Intercoolers
Red EVOMS lower boost hoses
EVOMS Diverters (changed from another brand of diverters)

The Speedtech kit is great upgrade to go along with 2.5" intercoolers because it eliminates the restrictive factory style boost connectors. You can see the difference in this pictures.

Also boost tested and found a couple leaks.

I was hoping to start boosting 1.3 - 1.4 BAR but still seeing 1.2 BAR even with the 100 Octane Flash. Going to contact GIAC to see what the issue might be. May just need to tighten teh wastegates?

Overall the car is significantly faster and spins the tires in 1st and 2nd on torque alone! Considering going back to AWD for more traction. My current setup has the front driveshaft removed.

I can only imagine what 1.4 BAR will feel like in the midrange

All I can say is WOW!! No traction in 1st or 2nd! This thing just spins the tires on torque alone! Gonna have to considering putting that driveshaft back in and going back to AWD.

My car was dyno tuned for 91 octane and has a switchable 100 Octane file that I haven't tried yet. My dyno before the above mods is below. You can see how it was pulling timing hence the IC recommendation. I have relatively small Tial 2860 turbos so 1.3 -1.4 BAR doesn't flow like some of bigger kits would. Super fast spool and great throttle response.

Ari,

Great news! I'm glad this upgrade worked out so well for you. You deserve it...

I thought you used our 2.5" red boost hoses, though?

Ari,
I would not go back to AWD. I had the same traction problem you have now. I just got some Toyo R-888s in 315/30 and 235/40 on stock twists. Now it holds WOT in first and second. I just take it easy in the rain though.

Steve,

No programming needed. Speedtech will supply you with all the new upper boost hoses, a y-pipe and an adapter for the stock throttle body.

The hoses alone are a $6-800 value, so the kit is actually very cost effective.

No programming required.

Ask John for pricing. He has great customer service skills and really gets it.

Let me know what you decide.

Sounds great Ari. Where do the chrome finished pipes with the 45' bend go?

They are the angles that connect the ICs to the Y-Pipe

Zippy,

This is a universal kit designed to work with any brand of intercoolers, so the aluminum pieces are trimmed to length per the installation. Only a small portion of the piping is ultimately used to make the transition upward from the IC to the silicon hose.

A small piece of silicon hose is used to attach to the IC. Then, the aluminum piece is trimmed and installed between the IC silicon hose and the longer boost hoses that run to the Y-pipe. Here is a picture that shows how the aluminum is used to tailor the angle upward to meet the Y-Pipe hose. This Y-Pipe has a 75mm exit opening - you can see how it flows straight into a 75mm throttle body without any restriction.

Also, while on the subject of intake air plumbing - we recently sold a full intake kit with the hard pipes and I snapped a picture of the turbo intake hard piping. This is a superior product - take a look at the wall thickness of these inlet pipes. These are some seriously strong tubes. I have had mine on for 4 years/45,000 miles now and they are still like new. I feel very confident that these pipes will last the life of the car - they are much thicker and stronger than the OEM pipes they replace. If you have never held them or seen them in person, you would be really surprised at the quality and thickness of the material - it appears to be indestrucable. You will never have to worry about failure of these pipes - it's just not a concern at all...great peace of mind.
