To much Oil ?

I have a 996tt 6Spd and recently had a oil change.
According to my user manual the car should be taking about 8.5qts.

Just how sensitive is this engine to overfilling ? Should I be worried about anything more than .5qts overfill or is it pretty safe up to ????

Reason I am asking is that after a long drive (300miles) and speeds up to 125 and near 6.5k. I was expecting some drop in oil level. But there has not been any drop and I am beginning to wonder if the mechanic over filled the oil. Normally after a long day of some aggressive driving I see some drop in the level by at least one to two bars. But only after very hard driving.

Are my expectations normal for a drop in level after a day of hard driving and should I be concerned about a potential overfill ?

So where is it on the gage? You really lose two bars on one drive...that is not good IMO.

Thanks for the quick replies.
It is usually more like 1 bar. But since this seems excessive based upon the responses I will just watch this more carefully. Perhaps the last time it was not fully topped off when I saw the drop.

Also keep in mind that a fill of fresh oil will not drop as quickly as old oil- older oil has been 'sheared down' by fuel dilution and mechanical abuse.... you will definitely notice a slower drop with a new fill.

Could be a factor...

I think you'll be okay, my oil level fluctuates by one to two bars everyday. As long as its in the range, you'll be fine.

Do you see smoke at start-up or when driving?

There is some smoke at start up.
But not while driving and not after the initial warmup.
