Key West Post Trip Report
Key West Post Trip Report
While in Key West, we got to observe some of the fastest machines I've ever seen...

Nothing like seeing turbine powered speed boats outrun their chase helicopters... These puppies were toping out at over 200MPH

We had a chance to talk with a couple of the crew members during various evenings when boats were on display on their transporters parked on Duval street. These speedboat efforts rival F1 technology, and at $50M annual budgets for a few of the teams, you can see why... Insane! The piston powered boats were impressive as well... I'll try to get some of my own pics uploaded over the next couple days...
Unfortunately I caught a bug on Thursday and by Saturday I was worthless for anything that lasted more than 2 hours in length, and ended up taking lots of naps due to an upper respiratory something-or-other. We did manage to eat at some of the better restraunts there, to include 7Fish, Blue Heaven, and Louis' Back Yard.
I also managed one reef snorkel, and one beach snorkel. All that said, 5 days total isn't enough time, and we'll be staying for at minimum 7 days next time we go...
Oh, and never, no matter what you do, ever, never ever, travel thru LaGuardia airpport. We had to change carriers, which meant we had to physically leave the airport, go to another terminal, and go BACK thru security to catch out "hop" down to Richmond Va. All in 50 minutes... Needless to say it made a "sick day" travel day back a lot more stressful. They need to bulldoze that place and start over... It doesn't "work" with current TSA requirements...
Enough *****ing... Enjoy!

great photos Mike. Those boats look amazing. To bad you did not feel so well. nothing worse then getting sick on a vacation trip. Looks like one of the boats bit the dust or water in this case.
Anything that goes that fast has to be fun. My only complaint is Geico sponsors "speed" events than donates 5,000 laser guns to local law enforcement to boost premiums.

Dr. didn't mention swine flu, but who knows... I know I have zero energy and slept 38 out of the last 48 hours, not to mention that I'm going from hot to cold and sweating then shivering... Doctor gave me a strong antibiotic, an inhailer for thw wheezing, and some powerful cough syrup.
I feel like crap.

wife paniced and made me go to the hospital yesterday afternoon where they evaluated me and concluded that I have "A" flu and likely pneumonia. They said that the swine flu and the regular flu strains are to close to show differences in type beyond the first 48 hours.
I can tell you guys this much, you do NOT want to get this crud. I can't imagine a time where I've felt worse.

Thanks for the great pics Mike.
Sorry to hear about the sickness, but the weather looked fantastic! I haven't been down in nearly 3 years. My folks always spent several months there during the winter with their RV and/or time shares. It was great to fly down and have a free place to stay. Seeing the pictures really makes me want to go for a week!
There are some really great places to eat down there and it sounds like you got to hit a few. I always make sure to make it to Blue Heaven whenever I am there. El Siboney has some great Cuban food if you get back down there. I haven't made it to Louie's yet, but loved Abbondanza and their meatballs.
Thanks again for sharing and get well soon.
