Change In Boost?
Change In Boost?
I got my 2002 TT last November and my boost has been at a solid 1.0 bar. I recently changed my exhaust and during one test run without an exhast, my boost jumped to 1.1 bar. I ended up going with a custom "free flow" exhaust and now it consistenly pushes 1.1 bar from 5000-6500 rpm. Any idea if this could be from the exhaust switch? Or maybe another reason?
The stock boost level for your car is 0.7 bar after the ecu flash it will increase to usually around 1.0 to 1.1 bar I'm pretty sure with the exhaust that is what is causing the change. This sounds like a good problem to be having!! Hope this helps.
Glad you like! He's only reason I'm able to drive my dream car!!

MBailey, I just noticed, but that's quite the set up you've got going on there. I imagine you're putting down some big HP numbers for sure! How are you liking the Alpha's? Sounds like they are big fun!! I've been considering them as well as the AMS billet K16's. Any advice?
A free flowing exhaust will decrease lag and offer better breathing up on top....

No, if you put in new turbos you will have to change your ECU program if you want the car to run right. But with the right program bigger turbos generally can run more boost as long as you have enough octane, fuel, enough supporting mods and engine strength to do it safely.

Iam very happy with the A28s. They are a fast spooling hard hitting turbo with plenty of oomph up top too. They do require significant supporting mods to be competitive with larger turbos. They are very responsive and spool like heck under typical street conditions. They give excellent torque as well too. These turbos have a very well known mod path to yield good results.
What I know of the billet K-16 is great too. I know they took those turbos, exhaust, injectors, and race gas and ran 191 at the Texas Mile. My car with a similar setup with A28s only went 186-187. So the billets may have an advantage mod for mod.
Good luck with your modding!
I dont think the AMS folks have a 5 bar program. I saw a program for bigger fuel injectors. This, in my opinion, is a much better way to go than a 5 bar FPR because it allows more precise fuel delivery. The 5 bar is more like a band-aid and injectors are a cure.
If you only want 600 crank you can get there with either the A28s or the billet K-16s on a stock fuel system.
