New Lightweight battery option by Porsche
New Lightweight battery option by Porsche
It was low 40's here today and was driving all day with my little battery. I plan to drive my car with my little battery all winter. I still have my BIG HEAVY battery, just in case.
$60 deka battery, not $1500

sometimes you just cant beat the tried and true stuff....and for the price i would take the deka lead acid battery too...lithium ion is cool and all. but i think we all could find a better place to spend the other $$

Eventually price will come down, this is the first automotive battery of its kind, best thing about these is the amount of times it can be discharged and recharged, without hurting it, kind of like a cell phone.... eventually batteries like this will make it into every car as government pushes for stricter fuel consumption, manufacturers will be looking for every ounce of weight to shed.
My understanding is that it's a LiFePo4 battery, which offers a longer life and is less apt to explode than what most of us know as 'Lithium Ion' or 'Li-ion' batteries. While it is cool that Porsche is offering it as an option, LiFePo4 batteries have been available in the aftermarket for a while now.
There's been a little gel type battery under the passenger seat of my Audi Q7 for the last couple of years. I wonder if Porsche is just catching up with the rest of the VW/Audi group (like direct injection, PDK ect)?
