Max power on standard turbos

My friend in Germany has a standard K16 turbo car, flashed to 1.2 bar sustained - peaking at 1.3 with cargraphics pipes and K&N filter - just like my X50 car. He is convinced his car is pushing over 500bhp crank. I told him I doubt that because as I understand it, K16's cant go beyond 480bhp, with pipes ot without. What do you guys think?

I think that's possible for crank HP, with an aftermarket exhaust and upgraded wastegates. For 500 RWHP he would need bigger turbos.

When I bought my car in 08 it has a EVOMS stage 2 package (stock k16s @ 1.2 bar max) on it and RWD. It dynoed at 448rwhp on a mustang dyno in AZ. That's 500+ at the crank.

How much 500+ would that be? What is an avarage tranny loss in our cars? I presume a bit more with awd versus rwd. Thanks.

I would guess low 500s at the crank - maybe 510-520. That's assuming a roughly 15% loss. I have heard estimates of anywhere from 12-18% for RWD 6speed drivetrain loss.

I know someone on here (TXGold maybe?) put down 480 to the rear wheels (AWD removed) on a dynojet with a reasonable correction factor. I would figure around 10% losses for the trans and diff so probably around 525bhp.

So his car vesrsus my X50 car running same boost and same pipes not much of a difference rather than the power curve due to my larger turbos - my car having a bit more go at the top end?

Mine with K16 and OEM exhaust tested 442awhp and 482tq today on Dynapak with a 1.0bar flash, 91 octane pump gas.

Drivetrain losses:
10% = 491 fhp
12% = 502 fhp
15% = 520 fhp
18% = 539 fhp

It's all about power "under the curve". Same peak number means nothing.

I have been in many 'debates' about this on this forum in the past, but I'm confident that with the right setup, K16's can make around 550-575 crank HP. Why do I think this? Because I trapped 126 mph in my K16 car at full weight, AWD with only an intake, exhaust and tune. Member 'Ruffinit' trapped 126.3 with his full-weight, K16 car with exhaust, tune and drop-in air filter.

For comparison's sake, a RUF 590 (AWD, full-weight, app. 600 crank HP) traps 126.5. A stock 997TT (480 crank HP) only traps 121 at best.

I won't say it's the norm..but on those days, in those particular K16 cars, they were definitely making over 550 crank HP.

What I've heard ( I do not yet own a 996 turbo, hopefully soon ) from reliable source, stock 996 turbo engine with GT2's turbo's and IC's, 550 crank HP is max, but the engine would produce that a whole day ( = ie. flat out driving on a Autobahn or at track ). So with std turbo's and IC's it would be less...how much, I do not know.
Required boost level with backpressure ( and intake temparatures ) the boost is causing is the key issue. At certain boost level only back pressure keeps increasing, without any increase of power. I'd like to know what's the threshold with std turbo and GT2 turbo's. I bet the tuners know this, but are they willing to share?
