Confused newb. 996 or 997??

First of all, Howdy to all!
First post here so bear with me on this one.

I just bought my first Porsche, wanted on since I was 10yrs old .

Anyway, I bought an 05 Turbo S Cab with 7k miles on the clock.

Well, being a hotrodder and gearhead, but new to the Porsche world

I naturally dug in and started learning what could be done to (of course) go even faster!

So I found lots of info on flashes and such, I am not looking to go ragged edge with this car so i will prolly just go with a flash and some minor bolt ons.

100WHP for such simple stuff is amazing! I just can't resist.

BUT I am very confused about whether i have a 996 OR a 997

The original sticker has it as a 996, the vin decoder has it as a 996.
BUT
I keep seeing where 996 supposedly were stopped in 04, mine is an 05! Ahhhhhh!

Is it a 996 or a 997??

I am almost certain it's a 996, but the production year thing is throwing me off.

It does not really matter other than to satisfy my curiosity and make sure I look at the right performance upgrades but it's really bugging me.

A lil help?

Thanks in advance and here looking to a great deal of fun with my new (to me) TT Cab

The 05 was the last year of the 996's and I think they were a very limited production with only a few Turbo S's being made. The 997TT came out in 07 I think.

Get some pictures up of the car! And congrats and welcome to the community!

That's pretty much what I'm thinking, I just wanna be sure.

The salesman did say it was a limited run and they only made the Turbo S for 2005, but they ALWAYS say that crap. To the best of my knowledge it's basically the X50 package with some interior tweaks.

Next step is to get some production numbers, but that's another subject.

And thanks for the welcome!

I'm gonna try and get some pics this afternoon.

Brought the car home from Dallas last Fri, have not had it quite a week yet.

2005 was a split year between the 996 and 997. 996 only came in C4S and Turbo S flavor in 2005.

Turbo S is a regular Turbo plus X50 power package plus PCCB plus Turbo S badging. Read Scott's production numbers thread and you'll see how rare the 2005 Turbo S is...

996 ended in 05 and 997 started in 05. 996 = your headlights. 997 = round headlights

Welcome and congrats. I am in the same boat as you...into my 996TT for about 3 weeks now....funnier still, my first post was exactly the same as yours....confused if mine was 996 or 997 because everything I had read said the switch was mid 2005 production run and we both have 2005's. I think the best answer was just stated. 996 has the oval headlights and 997 has the round ones.

Look at the option code sticker in the trunk. Should say 996 or 997.
