I am looking to upgrade to a 996 tt shortly, curently i have a b5 s4 that makes 450whp. My question is will i be impressed with the power of a TT Porsche? What will a flashed exhaust system no cats run in the 1/4 mile? Sorry for the n00b post and yes i have searched.

The stock cats and exhaust are both part of the same problem. Too much back pressure. Change the exhaust out to a system with high flow cats. Several of them have muffler bypass pipes as an option, but beware, they might develop more top end power but don't sound very good at low to mid RPMs on the street. Running the 1/4 is more than just changing the exhaust and a flash, it's as much about suspension, tires, and the guts to destroy a clutch and half shafts. Although these car can perform very well in the 1/4, that is not what they were designed for. Any 16 year old can a run a 11-12 sec 1/4 in the right car after only a few pratice runs. Take the car to Laguna to seperate the men from the boys.

Maybe the OP wanted to know the 1/4 mile info to compare trap speeds with his S4 to get an idea of how much power to expect. Maybe someone with a bolt on k16 car can chime in. I think an average bolt on car runs in the low 12s/high 11s at a little under 120. Obviously there are tons of variables like density altitude and driver skill

And as Duane mentioned, aftermarket exhaust paired with no cats can = huge drone on the low end

X50 + tune (a good one) + exhaust = 123-125 mph all day.

Your s4 has no chance. Probably against a stock turbo with only 450 whp.

My car is a non-X50, with only a Europipe exhaust and a Softronic flash. I did the 1/4 one time - four runs - and my best was 11.67 at 119. How does that compare to your b5 s4?

Yes exactly what i was looking for. Just a couple numbers and times to compare with to what i am currently driving. I am looking to find a very very well priced TT so probally finding a x50/k16 car may not happen. I also do not plan to drag race the **** out of this car but will make a handfull of passes during the summer months. In regards to modding it, other than bolt ons such as flash DV"S exhaust ( i will most defentially tak out the cats) coilovers sways rims tires and maybe injectors if you can tune for them and make more power....I guess i am just rambiling, i have A LOT to learn over in the p-car world Thanks to all with your help!

I had stock K16's, straight pipes, flash, LWFW and Clutch, rear wheel drive conversion and some minor weight reduction mods and ran a best trap of 125 and a best et of 11.65. I've always had traction issues and a best 60ft of 1.7 or 1.8. Pretty good when you consider you can pick one of these cars up for under $40K, and spend $1000 on flash, $400 on straight pipes, and provided your stock clutch holds up, run 11.6 to 11.7's.

You will be impressed with the power of the 996TT. With the above mods, my car dyno'd on a dynojet 490RWHP.

sorry for a dumb question but are k16's are non x50 package?? Also what will a clutch flywheel and labor typically cost?

Also what about the rwd conversion...How hard expensive was that?? Very interested, i heard it takes about 300lbs out of the car

No X-50 and Turbo S have K24 turbos from the GT2. K16's TT's have no designation. Expect a clutch to cost about 800-1000 and labor to be about another 400-800 depending on how good of a deal you can find.

RWD conversion is 71 lbs, nothing more, and it fairly easy to do yourself or to have a mechanic to.

I think it is a lot less than that because you still have a transfer case in the front after you remove the driveshaft.

X50 = K24's. Good choice if you plan not to change the turbos.

A FULL RWD conversion includes removal of the driveshaft, front axles AND the front Dif. Total weight 71lbs. Cost to do = $0, time to do = couple hours if you've never done it.

I sent the slip to divextreme and he put me on the 1/4 mile list...if you do a search under my name you can see the slip.

what kind of flash was it and how much boost? That's very fast for a flash only car, Mine ran even with cars that trapped 123 with just a flash and stock exhaust.

i am running giac flash at 93 octane and speedtech exhaust...it traps 125-126 fairly consistently
