i'm going to ft lauderdale between xmas and new years, are there any car stores/tuners/shops i should check out while i'm there ?

That's the "short list", not too far away you'll find Orbit racing & a whole bunch more. For the car guy Rossion/1G racing is nearby too (Noble M12 & M400).

If you have time head down to Miami S. Beach Friday or Saturday nights to see a lot of exclusive machinery cruising.

I'm skiing out West over the holidays otherwise it would have been cool to hook up with a fellow 6speeder. Have fun!
