A Ruf Story
A Ruf Story
A Ruf story.
As many know, I purchased the Ruf pss9 and had them installed by a very well respected independent in NY. Ruf’s instructions did not call for the washer to be installed despite common sense that it should be. Perhaps things got lost in the translation, an inadvertent mistake, or their belief that everyone knows that the washers are necessary and no one would be foolish to leave them off. Regardless, after some track days I heard some noise and found what I believed to be washers in the box with the factory suspension. After speaking to Asgar at Weissach he informed me that 1) they would pay for the washers to be installed or 2)Ruf would have someone fix it when they were in the US.
Well two days ago I received a call that Joe from Ruf was doing a 550 package and would be happy to check on my believed problem. He was finished on Wed. and would see me. Well the life of attorney is unpredictable and I couldn’t make it Wed. To my surprise Asgar had made arrangements with Mr. Ruf and Joe to have Joe spend an extra night on Long Island and wait for me for Thursday. Well yesterday morning I woke up and took my car from the NYC parking lot to go to Long Island to meet Joe and all of a sudden my car went into limp mode as a result of the sensors. I took the car to Manhattan Motor Cars rather then Joe and left a message for Asgar at Weissach that I appreciated the efforts and that I would pay for Joes’ hotel and solve the problem some other time.
To my surprise, Asgar called me back and said that Joe was renting a car for me, postponing his other plans and driving to Manahttan Motor Cars to fix my car. By the way Joe has never been to NYC and hasn’t experienced traffic like this before-“yes the President was in town and all the United Delegates as well”
Well Joe did arrive and informed me that my suspension was indeed setup correctly, the parts that I thought were washers were really spacers. So the sound I heard was probably the rocks from Watkins Glen fumbling around or my brain. He did tell me that the front should be raised a bit to allow the shocks to work a bit better. To me this was worth the trip-He might have felt differently, but always kept a smile!!
Feeling stupid and grateful, Joe and I finished the day with a tour of Manhattan. I drove and he took in the sights-1-central park, the statute of liberty, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, the site of the twin towers,, wall street, forty second street, 5th avenue, empire state building, the plaza, seaport, etc.
Funny that Joe heads up Ruf’s hydro power plant. Yes-Ruf is in the business of selling energy back to the German gov’t. I guess they really understand Power
The next time you here -why spend a bit more on Ruf Pss9’s vs regular pss9’s please remember this story. It’s not just about their valving. It’s about a commitment, integrity and the Ruf history.

Many thanks!!
And Porsche if you are listening-You would be wise to purchase Ruf the way Mercedes did AMG-that would be step in the right direction!

I was the Long Island guy that Joe did the Ruf engine/suspension for. I also confirm what your saying about Ruf/Weissach. My whole experience was very positive, trouble free and actually fun. Joe is an incredibly knowledgable person when it comes to Porsche's and I enjoyed my time with him as well. I was a little nervous when I gave him driving directions to the city so reading your post put me at ease. The car is amazing, great power with a very linear delivery and a precise suspension but a very comfortable ride, all in all I'm a happy guy.
This does not surprise me at all. Ruf and the people affiliated with them, like Asgar at Weissach, are simply put the best people I have dealt with in the business. And BTW, I opted to get a 959 instead of a Ruf (for now) and they are still nice to me...
I spent a couple of hours with Alois when he was in LA, thanks to a call from Asgar who arranged the mtg. A RUF owner joined us (the one with that one-off blue car). From my time with them it was clear that choosing to work with RUF was like joining a club. They support and inquire about their cars... They make sure the cars live up to billing for years to come... etc. This is very smart business obviously, because many of their customers can buy any car in the world ten times over, but I can tell you it also comes from a place of passion. You can't sit with Alois and not sense that immediately. They love what they do and they love that they do it well. For those of you lucky to have a Ruf Vin#, I envy you. And those who have an upgraded car, I think it is great that you get the same level of service and support.

I'm in LA. Ruf will send a technician out here, they do do every few months. They will do the work at a shop of your choosing. You chould talk to RUF or to Asgar at Weissach (he's in Vancouver so he is easy to get on the phone time-wise).
I very nearly did a conversion to a 996TT a few years back.
You can also try an E-mail to Ruf. They respond pretty quickly.
PM me if you want to talk more about it, 20c4s.
