To Tip or Not to Tip?
Get a manual. Seriously. Unless you are 70. If I want an auto, I'll get another car with a Turbo 400 tranny.
Since you're close by, wanna "connect" and give it a go against my 6speed?
to not to tip... to tip to not.... tip to not to... get it?
You can always buy a cheap daily with a tip. But it's better to not to tip... to tip to not.... tip to not to... get it?
BTW did you know these cars suck at power shifting?
The Auto will probably be just as fast if not faster if you power brake it.
Bonus points for him!

I live in LA, drive a tip and like it. Likewise, my partner in crime who lives down the street from me has a tip with a cage and Alpha28s that he tracks and loves it as well. He does a good job spanking lap times of 6 speeders.
However, my opinion is that usually tip guys make the sacrifices because they want the auto box for whatever personal reason. If you don't have any reason better than wanting a white car, do yourself a favor and wait for one with a 6er (or better yet, just get a different color).

Sounds like someone is calling me out;
but peer pressure doesn't do much for me (I'm closer to 70 than you). I wonder when the definition of "connect" became "a race". If one day we meet on the freeway, I'll give it a go; otherwise...

Give him the go...
The only time I could see a Tip is when I first leave my house, traffic lights are every 500 ft, never sync'd together (thats how the traffic engineers control speed on this stretch of road) and it is a straight & flat road, after that the 6 speed is the only way to own the turbo's IMHO

...even then, suffer through 10 minutes of hell to enjoy your car the rest of the time. There isn't ALWAYS traffic there.
I'm sure it's a minority view in this day and age, but i feel like there is certain feminimity to driving a automatic, or tiptronic. It's not the entire reason i would buy a 6speed. For me it's much more enjoyable to drive a manual trans. One of my first cars was a VW GTI 16v. I remember as a kid being proud of the fact that automatic wasn't an option on those cars from 87-92. If you wanted just the regular 8v GTI you could get an auto trans, but if you wanted the best model, you had to step up to the 5speed. I wish most Porsche models were only offered in a 6 speed.
Disclaimer: i have never driven a car with paddle shifters, it sounds like it is a more involved experience, but i have never driven one, or been a passenger in one.

Comments like being "70 years" old or "feminimity" for driving a tip are just funny. Why would driving a manual make me more of a man? I have both auto and manual in my garage, so that makes me a bi-sexual...

I know this topic has been brought a few times, but I'd like to get some feedback with my current dilemma ...
Long story short - I'm in the market for a 911TT (~$45k budget) and I prefer white. So I find a white 911TT w/ decent history and all that, but one thing ... its Tiptronic. I really prefer manual, but never drove a Tip so I'm not sure how they are.
So the question is: Would I be happy w/ a Tip or kick myself for not going manual? What about adding the EVOMS TCU upgrade?
I do not plan on making major engine mods or taking the car to the track ... But then again, thats easy to say now.
Thanks!

its a buyers market, dont be impatient, just wait for the right car to show up otherwise you will probably be kicking yourself in 6 months time
I went through the same thing. Test drive both and see what you like better, its always very subjective. I would +1 with everyone and say not to settle. The turbo is about passion and the driving satisfaction you get, so it itsn't a question anyone here can answer but yourself.
IMO
Tip Pro:
1) Easy on traffic
2) No synchro issues
3) Can have faster lap times (concentrate on line, both hands on wheel)
4) Easy launch
Cons:
1) Lose some performance
2) Can be less fun/engaging
6spd Pro:
1) Fun/engaging (more things to do, heel toe, and perfectly matching revs etc)
2) Most performance
Cons:
1) Traffic
2) Brass synchros
3) Clutch feel not so good, but can be modified to GT2 clutch system, etc. Also accumulator can leak/fail.
It really depends on what factors are most important to you

My opinion is if you are looking for a white manual in the mid 40's you should be prepared to wait a while. There's a lot of tips out there on the TT model for some reason, but not a lot of white TT's. The most limiting factor is your price point. It knocks out at least half the 2001-2003 market. If mid 40's is it, I would be less concerned with color than the rest of the car.
