To Tip or Not to Tip?
To Tip or Not to Tip?
I know this topic has been brought a few times, but I'd like to get some feedback with my current dilemma ...
Long story short - I'm in the market for a 911TT (~$45k budget) and I prefer white. So I find a white 911TT w/ decent history and all that, but one thing ... its Tiptronic. I really prefer manual, but never drove a Tip so I'm not sure how they are.
So the question is: Would I be happy w/ a Tip or kick myself for not going manual? What about adding the EVOMS TCU upgrade?
I do not plan on making major engine mods or taking the car to the track ... But then again, thats easy to say now.
Thanks!

If you want a manual car, you will definitely kick yourself for buying a tiptronic after the honeymoon period is over. Be patient and keep searching for the car you want.
I made the mistake of being hasty before.

I can't answer to what will make you happy. This is the same kind of questions I get from my wife!??
I have never owned an automatic car/truck till my 996T. I find it great! I've been a professional driver and w/ that have logged 100s of 1,000s of miles shifting gears. In traffic it is nice just to gas and brake. If I want more control I go to manual. Easy enough.
Figure out what You want and don't settle. Until you do don't buy any car.

I have a Tip, love her. Here's how I draw the line if I'm ever going to do it again... if I want 750 crank hp and above, get a 6speed; if all I want is 700hp and below, you'll have fun with both cars. Plain and simple. Forget about you can "connect" better with a 6speed than a Tip; I bet I can "connect" to my car better than many 6speeders.

Thanks for the feedback everyone ...
One thing I noticed is that those who have gone with the Tip seem to love it.
Its sounds like I need to go test drive a Tip to really know what the difference is. The search/waiting sucks ... Its funny how I justify getting a Tip with stuff like "I live in LA" or "if I want to go fast and bang on gears, I should just take my motorcycle out". haha

I have a manual M3, so I actually prefers the tip on my 911. It's easier to drive around town and it's fast on the track as well. Having said that, if your heart is saying manual, wait and don't rush into a purchase.
If the car in question is local, just let the seller know that you are a serious buyer and the only thing holding you back is your uncertainty with the tiptronic trasmission. Ask if a test drive is possible. You should be the ultimate judge of whether Tip is right for you or not, not the collective view of this board.
Specifically what KIND of track? A tip is better for straight stuff like: 1/4 Mile, 60-130 and street rolls. With equally modded cars, the tip would be quicker in a straight line since the tip never drops boost during a shift. BUT, on a road course the 6 speed would be preferred. I toasted, literally cooked, my tip on a road course and had to rebuild it. IF i were to do it again, I wouldn't run more than .8-.9 Bar of boost on a tip tranny on a road course.

I had the same feeling last mouth before I got my 6 speed. I was so close to getting a tip thay run great fun to drive but after awhile its mostly in Auto. What do you wont from your relatinship with your car?? I like being in control and getting the revs up at will I do track another P-car. so shifting practice is always good for me.
The funny thing is I never see anyone asking if I should have gotten a tip over a 6speed,
