Guys,

Wondering what input some of you that are more experienced with Rovers have on the '03 model...it is the first year for the new body style. Also what is the price point I should look for on a low mile (< 20k miles) pristine one?

Any other thoughts welcomed...

 

An incredible vehicle, but it depreciates like crazy (almost all Land Rovers do, actually).

Neil, I absolutely love my Disco II. England made a great vehicle no matter how bad the press for Land Rover is.

 

ive heard from mechanics that the range rovers are high maintanance and that they do break down alot.... coming from a mechanic for that dealership... thats the only thing keeping me from buyng one.... I love the look. I also had two other English cars.. Lotus espirit... 1999 and 2000.... they gave me the 2000 cause the first one turned out to be a lemon... If u lease it and dont care about reliability... it might be a car for you... cause I think they hit it on the nail with the new body.... unfortunately the drivetrain is based on a 20+ year old setup... I think they are soon to change it.

Markski, the "new" Range Rover is the offering from BMW. Those started in 2003. They have a 4.4 BMW V8 (same one that was in the 540i I do believe). They should be more reliable than the previous gen as they are basically an X5 with a Range Rover body kit.

 

Nearly 8,500 miles on my '04 and not a single issue, problem, squeak or rattle. I would highly recommend it.

Talk to your local owners about the service experience. If you think it takes a long time to get Porsche parts, Land Rover is worse!

Land Rover consistently ranked last in the quality surveys. Recently there was an up tick but they are still way below average.

For the money you will spend on an 03 Range Rover, you may be able to get a new LR3 SE.

Since Land Rovers depreciate like crazy, getting a used one is actually not a bad idea.

 

6000 on my 04 with no issues... Its a great value.

This is a replacment for my 1998 RR with 112,000 miles. Some issues on itk, but few considering miles driven.

 

Had an '03 put 20k on it and traded it in and bought an '04. Love them. No problems at all.

Also currently own a '93 that I bought new and kept as a beater

Still have the '04 also and it has 18k on it currently.

When we traded in our '03 the dealer gave us 62K for it and it had 20k on it. they re-sold it for 69K. Would think '04 would be about the same??

Some people hate the Rover driving experience and some, like me, love it. My 5 year old interior is still like new. The view from inside is just unparalleled for driver and passengers.

It's the only truck where you can take it rock climbing in the morning, wash it, and take it to a 5-star hotel/restaurant at night with ease.

<65k would be a good deal. If it's precertified, try to get extended warranty on it.

Hard part is deciding on the color. They all look so good.

 

the newer ones are based one BMW's X5, have the same engine and all.........and they're very reliable..........a great car imo.
