Do you guys get 'harassed' everytime you drive your car? (and other good car stories)

Was reading this post, and I must say that i was surprised to read other drivers dealt with the same stupid things that I deal with.

When I had my black porsche it was happening very often, now the white maserati its actually more dangerous.

People will stop walking in the city while crossing the street when they see the car.

I also deal with drivers looking at it when they drive next to my car, thats right, they are looking at my car and 10 seconds goes by and they are not looking at the road anymore, so, they come into my lane or so close that I need to walk away from my lane now.

Agressive driver, 3 to 4 times everyday I drive the car. Up to my bumper, but unlike the black porsche I dont get cut off as much.

I usually try to stay very calm, not the old me in this type of situation, but its simply not worth it, especially when your wife is seating next to you.

Main reason I say this is from one bad experience. A SUV cut me off one time and I happened to cut him off right after, he got upset and throw a bottle while driving on the highway at my driving side window, he hit it pretty good but no damage, we still driving and I really got upset, I hit the gas, cut him off and hit the brakes to the point that he almost hit me, he tried to pass my car but i did not allow it to the point he realized it was really dangerous and i wasn't backing off at all, after another 2 attemps he pulled out a gun towards my direction, then I just stoped. that was it for me.

Problem is when you drive an expensive car, you will find people who will love it, take pictures of it, congrats you, be happy for you etc.... and unfortunatly you will have simply a bunch of haters, they will try to race you, jealousy will come out, they could try to provoc an accident for money thinking you are rich etc...

but at the end, not worth it, more if you have kids, sure once in a while you hit the gas, it feels good, you know your car , but the other driver might not know his car that well, and thats a problem that could cause serious accident. if anyone else on the road gets injured because of you and that driver, you are simply doomed even if you did not start it

So my advice, always look in your mirrors, you will see from far those drivers, i always do, it will give you time to see them coming, black windows for the car, keep the people guessing who is inside before they do anything stupid, if someone get to close, shift down one time then 2 till the driver pass your car. Most of the time it works for me.

Good luck.

G.

that would have been a nice time to get his plate, call the police. License or not nobody should be waving a firearm at somebody else while driving.

Wow, pulled out a gun? I would be pretty scared and drive off in the opposite direction. After hearing all these road rage stories sometimes if you just happen to pick the wrong person on the wrong day. Just not worth it in my opinion.

As for stupid drivers I get them daily when I drive out the F car, and people trying to provoke me. Have had people cut me off closely, tailgate me, even had one guy staring at me from the side and slowly drift into my lane.

I did get some of this back when I drove a Lingenfelter 'vette (740 RWHP) with custom bodywork and a license frame that said "This Car Is Faster Than It Looks," but then that car was kind of asking for it, right?

Since then, going through a Carrera S, Aston Margin Vantage, and now a F430, this happens only very occasionally. I notice M-B AMG owners are the most aggressive: they seem to take offense to something more expensive on the street and really want to drag race. Otherwise, usually people smile and wave.

BUT -- I have a friend with a GT3 who was complaining that this happened all the time to him. Okay, its bright green, so, I thought maybe the color . . .
But I rode with him one time and it happened a lot, and it was obvious why. He drove like it was his road and his alone -- but quite aggressively, changing lanes, braking late and hard, etc. Frankly, his driving stood out more than his car did: I think he would get harassed just about as much if he was driving an Eclipse or even an Altima. .

Very astute Lee! I wonder how often this is brought on by the owner himself. I generally drive like everyone else on the road, and don't get challenged often at all.

There's always some wanna be race driver in a piece of junk that wants to mess with you. I let them go by. Not worth my gas or a ticket. If they become really annoying, just drop into into 3rd or 4th, blast to the right lane, put about 20 cars behind you and him, then slide back over to the left. Every so often there is a worthy opponent were a quick blast over the century mark or some hard pulls from a stop light is in order. However most of these guys respect their cars and yours.

I dont get that reaction. In fact its quite the opposite. Every time I take the 78 930Turbo out (and this one is LOUD) even old ladies smile at me. I think it must take them back to that badass boyfriend they had in the seventies

I've noticed a bit of this when I drive the GT-R as late. But mostly I just get people staring, taking pictures/video, giving me thumbs up, etc...

No one cared to glance at the black 997TT - suppose it was too stealth.
The 997.2GT3 gets endless attention - all unwanted. It is the wing and the howling, burbling exhaust (RSS Xpipe / center muffler delete). I drive like a grandma and still get mega-winged civics and STis that seek me out at stoplights and rev for a race. Meh, like I want to lose my license for racing? Many revs and thumbs up from young dudes in Japanese cars with body panels of various primer colors.

Pics at gas stations etc. I have pulled up into a dark, nearly abandoned strip mall at night to look up something on a PDA and out of nowhere some random guy is trying to take a cellphone pic of my car!

Had homeless guy at expressway offramp ogling it and remarking that he had never seen 'such a thing' and wanted to know the top speed. I told him it can go 55 mph. He said "good answer". The guy never asked for money!

It goes on ...

I've had this happen on numerous occasions along I-90 outside of Seattle...

Most recently a 2009 Mazda Speed 3 decided to blow past me at around 120 as I was taking my exit...I passed him with a wide birth about a 1/2 mile earlier as he was putting along at around 68 in a 70...

Why do they always feel the need to show boat when you're taking an exit...

I get the same harassment every time I drive my 1968 here in Toluca Mexico , the main issue is that you are driving a P O R S C H E and does not matter if it is a new or and old one . The SUVs , Sentras , Golf , Jettas you name it always try to race me , even if I do not want to. I have seen Cayennes here that the owners have been ripping of their emblems just to avoid this kind of conduct.
