Modded 996TT or GT2
+ 1. Lol.
80k vs 45k. That leaves me 35k. 12k for a turbo/tune kit with intakes etc. Easily 600whp. 5k exhaust. 10k suspension upgrade with. 8k GT2 body kit. Now I have a car that IS faster than a GT2. How can you argue that a stock GT2 will beat a built turbo, that is

Your modded Turbo might be faster that some GT2s, and might cost less than a stock used GT2, but your car would still be a poser with a body-kit.
If everyone is not looking at value and resell, then outside of the balling status of a GT2, what is the functional reason to spend the extra $$$ for a GT2 over a TT? Not trying to start something, just wanting to learn what performance advantage a GT2 has over a TT that a TT cannot be easily modded to be identical or better than a stock GT2.
I think people tend to forget how many differences there actually are between a 996TT and 996GT2. I know that I am always finding out more of them, sometimes significant and sometimes not so significant.
There have been a lot of great points made on this thread, but the OP also needs to ask himself about what is most important. If saving money is more important than having a GT2, then the answer is obvious. If straightline performance is the only thing important, than the 996TT can be setup to do a fine job (just see Powell's car for evidence of this). However, if having an exceptionally rare and even finer engineered car is more important, than the GT2 is the one to have.
For the weight weenies (myself included), another expense you'd have to consider for converting a 996TT into a GT2 would be the roof conversion (unless you started with a sunroof delete 996TT of course) and proper rear seat delete. That is several thousand dollars right there, and something most people would never even think of.

Wow. I learned so much here. Mostly that there is great competitive blood between TT fans and GT2 fans
Thats why we all get hooked to these forums.
I've made my decision, at least on this subject. #1: Money -TT wins #2: Back Seat - actually a big reason Im looking at 996TT. Otherwise I could get modded Z06 or others (for MUCH cheaper) to MEET my goals (not saying its comparable, just saying meet performance goals) My young kids need to ride occasionally to have fun. #3: Everyone keeps telling me I (most people) cant handle a 650hp modded RWD only. Thanks for the spirited discussion. To be continued.....

GT2 = much lighter and in some ways that aren't real easy to fix (ie sunroof and "real" RWD); better stock turbos, much better and more adjustable suspension and PCCBs (if that's actually an advantage?).
You could probably recreate most all of this stuff (although saving 300lbs is going to be pretty tough) if you wanted it for something less than the difference in cost between the two, but you wouldn't recover that expenditure on sale.
For a car that is going to see more track time (weight and suspension) or an individual that wants something "special," the GT2 makes more sense. For 80% of us that just want to go fast and have 85% of the fun for 60% of the cost, the GT2 is dumb.
