Do's and Don't on buying wheels?

Sunny and dry one day, but snow the next, need to have another set of wheels for snow tires, maybe stud's(?).

Owners manual, 2001 911tt, specs out 18x8 ET50 frnt and 18x10 ET47 rear.

Being a total newbie noob any advice would be appreciated. The manual also specs out 'track' numbers 57.95/60.0 inch, hugh?

I would just buy a used set of OEM hollows. You can pick up a straight set on the cheap, if they are less then perfect cosmetically.

I think some guys run narrower wheels with spacers from the 996 c4s or 997. There are some threads on the types of narrower rims you can use.

I'd contact the following:
Damon @ tirerack 877-522-8473 ext. 643 (board sponsor)
Also Alan from Wheel Enhancement @ 310.836.8908 (board sponsor)

Snow Tires: Dunlop or Blizzak
225/40R18
265/35R18

Rims:
18X8 5-130 ET54 $179 each Sport Edition Cup 4 (tire rack)
18X10 5-130 ET40 $189 each Sport Edition Cup 4 (tire rack)
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...t=2&qty_rear=2

It'll probably cost you around $1500 for wheel / snow tires.

Happy Trails!

+1 Damon. I have the Blizzak Cup 4 listed below. Handles incredible in the snow...

Feedback, have new Wheels with Dunlops.

Sat night passed everyone on snow packed roads around I70 Eisenhower tunnel (coming back from a spirited day ice climbing at Vail).

Really impressed with performance on these icy roads, changing lanes was a breeze. Kept PSM off and I kept it under 60.

Who is doing upgrades in the Boulder area?

This is my exact set up for winter right now. With this combo, you'll be able to leave more than a few SUVs and Subarus emabarrassed...

Snow Tires: Blizzak LM25
225/40R18
265/35R18

Rims:
18X8 5-130 ET54 $179 each Sport Edition Cup 4 (tire rack)

Will that tire combo fit comfortably on the stock rims or would the 265's be too stretched? I am planning on using my stock rims as the winter tires and a new set for summer.

I wouldn't put the 265/35/18 on an 11 inch rim. They would be pretty stretched.

You'll want to go with a 10 inch rim for those rear tires.

Well I really want these to be my winter wheels - looks like I will be running 30 mm wider then, Not ideal for fresh snow, but more sipes on the packed stuff (this is of course assuming I can get a winter tire in that size)
