Seat Belt Question for '01 996, please help

So Im waiting to take possession of my 996TT (couple of weeks) I want to install red seatbelts. So I got a groupbuy setup from Suncoast. Now I have found out 2001 996's wont take the same belt as 2002 and up. It looks as if I can't purchase red belts for '01? Please explain this to me. I REALLY want red seat belts. What is the difference? How can I make it work?

C'mon! Someone here has GOT to know the difference between '01 and '02 seat belts. Why won't '02 work in '01's? Where can we get red belts?

I think the seat belt tensioners were added in 2002. Maybe?

Yup, I'm pretty sure they added pretensioners in 2002.

Excuse my ignorance (I don't even have possession of my 996tt yet). The pre-tensioners make it impossible to install in '01 996? It sounds as though I have to bag the whole red seat belt option. I guess red 5 point harnesses may have to do

This is probably best suited for a vendor to answer. I've seen 2001's with red belts.

I too have an '01 and would like the red seat belts. I heard it had something to do with teh pretensioners being pyrotechnic in the 02 and you cannot retrofit them into the 01. And they don't still make the '01s in other colors anymore.

Bummer. Red seat belts would look great in the white Turbo with black leather/carbon interior I am picking up in 2 weeks. Anyone aware of any aftermarket solution for the '01s?

I think the consensus is that '02 added tensioners. I want more specifis though. What about the pre-tensioners make it not work in '01 (keep in mind I don't even have my recently purchased 996tt in my hands yet. Can't just go look in the garage) Do the pre-tensioners not fit behind the plastic? Specifics please.

SOMEONE has done this. Please help! There HAS to be an option!

Hey Folks - I did find the 1st gen 996 belts in Blue, Red, or Yellow. Pricing is higher than the later version though. PM me if you're interested, I can check price & availability.
