Exclamation Tuning opinion

So, this week I will make my first steps in the tuning world of 996tt, I will install a Cargraphic exhaust without cats and ecu modification from SKN tuning Germany.

Their tuning programs are looks like this :

stage 1 : + 36 kW (49)PS / + 141 Nm

stage 2 : + 73 kW (99)PS / + 230 Nm, but I didn't ask them what includes stage 2.

What do you think guys about their stages, i really care about your opinion, because on this board are some of the best tuners and Porsche enthusiasts

p.s. I already bought the gaskets for the exhaust to be sure that everything will be ok and in two weeks the dv's will arrive, what else should I look for ?

Thank you very much, any comments will be appreciated !

_gez_ is infamous around these parts
Normally the difference between stage 1 and 2 is an exhaust. Can't tell from their website as my German isn't that good!

how do you want people to help you if they have no description of what is a stage 1 or 2?

it's like asking do you think my girlfriend looks good without posting a picture...

really, description AND price is necessary to determine if it is worthwhile. The stge1 seems like just a tune and stge 2 is probably some exhaust to go with it. Depending on price this may be good. Assuming that stge 1 and 2 are as I stated, then Stge 1(tune) $2k or less. Stge 2 (tune+exhaust) $5k or less(deal for package should be less than items separately.) This is high end and it does depend on the type of exhaust. you can get into a tune for $1k or less and an exhaust for $3k so you could be looking at $3500 for both on the low end or even less.

I wouldn't spend this amount of money on my car without a very clear statement of what is included, and real data such as dyno curves. The price of 12'900 euros would buy a LOT more horsepower and a LOT more other stuff to go with it.

I recommend that you send emails to some of the US tuners before going ahead. Just a short list: UMW (my tuner), EPL, GIAC, Protomotive, ...

Tune + exhaust ( if the car is all stock ) also needs DVs, 5bar FPR, and a BMC filter to maximize the tune ( IMO ). If you have the X50 package then upgrade the K24/16G turbos to K24/18G turbo as well. Then your set unless you want to spend a lot more $.
Make sure of the cost to upgrade the flash if you change more bolt ons. Some tuners are cheaper then others, you shouldn't pay full price if you add a bolt on later. At lease for a few tunes.

have not heard of a K24/16g? 18G however is excellent and a good choice for upgrade. Also, regardless of X50 or not, the cost is low. The only difference is the turbo and using the factory turbo casing. Everything else is exactly the same.

A "tune" isn't an item like a 'wheel' or 'DV' or 'turbo'.... it is the judgment and skill of the person creating it.

Unless SKN has a proven track record with MANY people using THEIR tune, with real life experience behind it, I would be concerned.

Is there ANYONE here running an SKN tune?

yes, no one can tune better than they can.

The 9ff turbo cayenne in my area is proof. It runs when it wants to and usually does not. If that 9ff is an example, I would stick with American tuning...lol

In europe people is using SKN, from what I understand their are making the tune for Hamann. I know that in the us nobody is using it ! If you look on the web site of skn you will see that they have an experience of over 15years in tuning.
That's why I am asking you guys this thinks, I know that some are "stupid" questions but I am learning and don't want to make mistakes !

Thank you all for the comments, keep them coming !
