2006 V8V key fob successfully programmed.

Today I was successful in programming the key fob for my 2006 V8V. I purchased it from https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/2004-volvo-s40-remote-30772198.html for $50 and used my ThinkDiag OBD reader to program it using the video posted by another member. Now I am going after the key and see if I can get one of the Ford ones to work. I am beyond stoked!!! Of course this will only work in early cars with the separate key and not the newer ones with the crystal key.

That's great! I thought that it was only possible with AMDS.

Could you please post the link to the programming video you mention? (or the link to the thread where it's discussed)

Agree! I wish this was an option back when I bought my car and wanted an extra key.

Yep, that’s it. it’s pretty easy. The only issue i came across was not being able to go into the “test” option in order to delete the ones I don’t have. I am sending the ThinkDiag a message to see what’s up with that. Other than that the Read and Write worked perfectly.

I looked at the ThinkDiag tools, but they have so many versions possible to buy, I couldn't tell which one I'd need. Which one did everyone here get? The $89 model? The $150 model? The $199 model? I'm confused...

Unfortunately I have the glass key - bought the car with only one (cracked glass) key - I was lucky to get a new one and programmed for just $1,070 - Ouch!

Interesting, I paid $325USD at the dealer to program my new Volvo fob, this would have saved me $200...

Thank you for posting the link.
Just to be sure, "the all important id numbers" as mentioned in the video come with the key?

Hmm, 'item is discontinued' when you try to buy the key fob.
This place has it for $71.

Does the physical key have a transponder that also needs programming, or is it just a dumb metal key that must accompany the fob?

This is only the remote part for the doors/lights/trunk/panic. The metal key needs to be cut and programmed separately for early (metal key) cars. The original post link is no longer in stock, but I bought one (link below) for $64.16 plus shipping or my Rapide a few mponths ago and worked perfectly and now have a working spare. These will work for both the older metal key and the newer Crystal key. For the Crystal key to start the car, you will need a chip programmed to the car (thankfuly the Rapide came with a spare fob and had the chip in it programmed to the car, only the remote for doors/lights/trunk/panic was not working). So this is good for the door remote for both keys.
